small (50-52cm?) late 80's Dawes Horizon tour - needs some TLC (Lincoln)

you are quite right, however Dawes will be heavy and I think there are nicer pre-loved bikes out there for £50 which is not itself very much cash at all but you would end up having to spend quite a bit for decent wheels and some components in all likelihood. I have been eyeing up some...

    1993 DB Axis Build thread

another one for the Axis collection ( is it too greedy to have a 91,92,93 and 94?) - this one is the 'Emerald Black' ( and therefore somewhat dull looking compared to 92 and earlier) 1993 variant in TIG welded true temper OX 'chunky' gauge tubes. most of the original parts...

    H.Hall Romany Build Thread

battle was joined Seat post didnt put up too much resistance but is not reusable (strong japan) as its top bolt has fused solid. Quill stem was a great deal harder to free up - 1/2 can of penetrating oil and a real workout of the handlebars - eventually freed it and is re-usable as...

    1954 Lenton Sports build thread

I can confirm the headset and BB are not BSA sized, remarkably, the BB was aok with just cleaning and re-greasing, I have fitted new cotter pins to the cranks and the BB spindle was not unduly worn where the cotter pins fit so happy with that, the chainring teeth run very close to the...

    1954 Lenton Sports build thread

The original wheels were 26 by 1 1/4 and so 650b is very close, these wheels are standard European size trekking style wheels so very little difference to the originals. The front and rear axle spacing was quite a bit different though, I am not used to 1950s sizes, lots of Imperial sized nuts...

Yes I do believe longer reach calipers may be needed, I may fit some more reliable brakes and better levers as it is sometimes important to be able to stop :-)

New arrival, in quite a poor condition so will have to be a full refurb, but hopefully an epic rescue eventually. Currently taking stock of what to do and what can be kept etc Never seen another one of these so exact original spec unknown, * think the crank set at very least was changed and am...

Progress report. Was stripped to frame and forks and paintwork cleaned and sealed. I sourced some NOS 650b wheels and nice lightweight Soma tyres. Slowly cleaning and refitting the salveagble components and sourcing other period parts. Rolling chassis mock up ... 3 speed derailleur conversion...

    XL Orbit 531C £50 Dewsbury

I wouldn't recommend keeping the components on this one., not wheels, first Q to ask is whether stem, BB and seat post can be freed.

    Funky Kuwahara Oncilla

nice frameset, I have thrown countless carry straps like that into the bin when dismantling donor bikes - lol always liked a kuwahara and this one has nice paint scheme, sadly I fear import duty if bringing into UK from Germany

    1991 Kona Explosif DX

good work, deore shifters aren't that durable, if you are going to give it a workout, keep your eye out for XT variants that have more robust construction and likely to stay the course. the solid purple colour reminds me of the now defunct Rowntrees tooty frooties ;-)
