Would also be happy with an Eddy Merckx fork which was probably made by De Rosa anyway.

I used to work in the paint industry in the 1980's and the only thing that changed was the use of solvents, lacquer used to be fast drying using toluene or Methyl Ethyl Ketone, I think both of those fell out of use because of health worries, but the lacquer itself, the resin, is still the same...

They would have used an acrylic lacquer I would have thought. Modern coatings are better, but might need a bonding coat of something between the chrome and coloured tint

I'm going to spot restore all the scratches using liquid mask and tinted clearcoat. Hopefully I'll find someone to supply me a color matched acrylic lacquer that I can apply using a small airbrush. When that's done, I'll look at re-chroming the large area on top tube if possible, I imagine that...

Yeah, lots of UV damage on top tube and fork fronts, colour elsewhere is pretty good though. Any idea what type of lacquer they would have used circa 1981?

Had a good look at the frame over the weekend, and it's a beauty!! Needs some restoration though, but this will be done tastefully, so spot retouching scratches etc with a suitable tinted coating. Lots of pics here https://imgur.com/a/d2iCL

    Gios Torino advice

Like you, I came here looking for advice, I've been on retrobike for 10 years, though not a great poster, more of a lurker. I do though respect the opinions and knowledge of the people on here, hence the reason for the thread advice on which components to build the bike with.

hang on a minute, this is all I have said there is nothing in there at all that could be taken by you or anyone to meaning I thought there was something wrong, I did call you a geek so sorry about that, but it was meant positively, as in you know a lot about vintage bikes & equipment not sure...
