    Mystery Peugeot

Thank you torqueless, great information. I have tried to send an email to Jim via the Bikeforums Classic & Vintage forum. I'm not sure if the email was accepted though, I got a message from the 'system' saying there was a restriction for people with less than 10 postings. I'll give it a couple...

    Mystery Peugeot

Thank you all for the replies and advice. I've been unable to find a picture of a bike that has the features of this one so I think 'torqueless' is probably right and I should abandon hope of achieving this, afterall it may have been modified over the years and therefore be unique. However I...

Hi there, more images of the drop outs and fork ends, cable outer anchors too.

Can anyone suggest where a frame number might be located, there's nothing on the BB.

    Mystery Peugeot

Hi, This is very interesting and I'm loving the challenge of discovering what it is, with all your help! I looked up Prugnat 62bis and Ekla H and these are an exact match for my frame and fork. Seat tube is 28mm OD, seat post is Sakae 25.25mm OD. Both the fixed and adjustable crank cups are...

As far as the tubing goes is the measurement OD or ID (seat post tube)? Is there a way to determine if it's French threading? Sorry......

    Mystery Peugeot

Thank you rikster. Interesting brochure, I looked through it carefully but all of the brakes seem to be 'tirage central', which google translates to 'central draw'. I assume this means conventional centre pull rather than cantilever. It's the cantilever bit that's throwing me, I can't find any...

    Mystery Peugeot

Hi again, I did ask about this bike on the forum about a year ago and did get replies, one suggestion being it may be a cyclocross bike but nothing definitive. Maybe now with a different audience someone will recognise it? Things being as they are I didn't get to start the restoration of the...

    Mystery Peugeot

Hi everyone, I'm about to start work on the frame of a bike I bought a few years ago and I'd like to know exactly what it is before knowing how much to commit. I have searched all over the web and can't find a bike quite like this one. I believe it is a Peugeot but beyond that...... I cannot...

Does anyone have an idea what this is?

Hi everyone, I found a crack in the frame of the mystery bike just below the seat post pinch bolt and decided to have it repaired. However when cleaning back the paint I finally found some stamping. I think it says 'BUTTED' followed by something I can't make out. This picture shows 'BUTTED'...

Does anyone have an idea what this is?

Thank you so much for your help. Holding the frame in my hand, and looking at the pictures from the link in the previous message pretty much confirms, to me at any rate, what the frame is. I'm learning all the time where to look for information and it is quite an adventure, an entire evening can...

Does anyone have an idea what this is?

I looked closely at the Bertin that's the closest I've seen. It may well remain a mystery but I'm still hoping to find a frame number buried beneath the paint, maybe even some old decals! I think that's whats bugging me most at the moment, the absence of any frame number or other identification.

Does anyone have an idea what this is?

Re: A mate of mine, JK, used to work as a machinist in Swindon and recalled a tale about an old boy he used to work with. By the way, Diana Dors real name was Diana Fluck. This old boy told my mate that Diana Dors was a Swindon girl and she had a really mucky name but try as he might he...

Does anyone have an idea what this is?

I bought the bike in an eBay auction, the chap was in Wales. I'm sorry but I wouldn't know what to look for in terms French threads, I guess it'll be metric but I don't have anything to compare it against. By seat pin diameter do you mean the seat post, this measured 1" diameter. I really don't...

Does anyone have an idea what this is?

Given the only marking I can find on the frame is 'Simplex' on the RH dropout maybe it is a 'special'. If it was a run of the mill frame wouldn't have a frame number?

Does anyone have an idea what this is?

I hadn't considered that the rear brake routing was none standard. It is an odd bike, I've searched through countless images of bikes with cantilever brakes and there's nothing quite like it, mind you, there aren't that many compared to bikes with conventional brakes. I think I'm going to assume...

Does anyone have an idea what this is?

Ian Leckenby, crikey there's a name from my past, I do remember him from school. I did a web search for Ian and it turns out he was born two days before me. We may have been in adjacent cots at Fulford Maternity Unit! This 'looking back' business brings on a touch of sadness though, Peter and...

Does anyone have an idea what this is?

I grew up in York and although I used to cycle to and from school (Archbishop Holgates from Fulford) and then work I wasn't really a 'cyclist' if you get what I mean, it was just a means of transport until I discovered motorbikes. Cycling came to me much later in life. There were a couple of...

Does anyone have an idea what this is?

Hi and thank you for the reply. I think the stickers were just put on to try to make the bike pretty, I wasn't even sure if the bike was a Peugeot. I'll check the drop outs again and scrape of the paint off to see if anything lies beneath. The rear brake cable routing really is a mystery...
