Any ideas on how to retro-pimp a modern cruiser?

Hi Tibo, not much to update on yet. Between the rain and my weird landlady (how the hell does she do it? she vanishes without notice for 4 days to Morroco or maybe just down the street and then turns up at at 12:15am within 2 minutes of ... well, it's not an appropriate subject for this...

Any ideas on how to retro-pimp a modern cruiser?

I was thinking the same thing. It's got coaster (hub) brakes but I'd like to have proper hand brakes on it.. but then I'd also like gears too and I wasn't intending to do a complete rebuild. I don't know, I'll have to ride the bike first and see if I like it enough to give it the deluxe treatment.

Any ideas on how to retro-pimp a modern cruiser?

I just bought them. 8) I'm not sure where to get a tank made up, it's probably a very simple job but some engineering workshops charge and arm and a leg for any job because they charge by the hour not by the complexity of the job. I like the idea of getting the frame resprayed in black...

Any ideas on how to retro-pimp a modern cruiser?

...so the only workaround for me is to buy a secondhand one (sort of excusable) but I'm not sure where to find one, people don't give up leather saddles very often. edit* I see what you mean about the bars, lower ones would look much closer to the 1950's era bikes. Definitely a good idea.

Any ideas on how to retro-pimp a modern cruiser?

I just bought this bike on ebay and I'll be picking it up on the weekend: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120482695141&_trkparms=tab%3DWatching I probably paid way too much for it but all the new cruisers are very modern styled and this was the only bike in the whole...

    Any motorcyclists on here?

I havent been on an m/cycle for years but I did ride for a long time. I gave it up because it was just too expensive to ensure both a car and motorcycle. In terms of practicality I have rarely found a motorcycle to better than a car except in busy cities where larger vehicles can become stuck...

(U.K) Want: American style cruiser for £500-ish

I'm looking for something like this - curvy steel frame and shiny bits! I don't care if it's all-original or not, I just want something pretty to show off. 8) The bike in the picture is a restored 1930's Hawthorne Zep btw.

unnacceptable comments made in november issue of mbr.....

I've never bought MBR but I certainly have no intention of doing so now. I find it completely unnacceptable that someone would do that and for a member of staff to publish the fact and laugh about it really is the height of arrogance. I'm surprised the comment wasn't edited out before going...

Post up your tenuous links to 'famous' people.

Not a blood relative but my - let's make sure I've got this right - Great Uncle's wife's (my great aunt I guess) cousin was Rocky Marciano. Oh, and I know a guy who know's a guy who lived next door to Margaret Thatcher and a guy who since moved to the USA who has an uncle or somesuch who is...

    Bike thief.. caught!!!

This sentence caught my attention: It's not often a Judge will say anything against the police - they have a very cosy arrangement about that - so this thief must have been very well known to the police but they turned a blind eye.

    Ebay problem buyer

Lewis is right, keep everything - including emails - within Ebay so that everything is on the record. Why would this guy want to pay by a method other than Paypal? Very odd. What were the conditions of sale? If he selected the "no returns" option then the buyer cannot ask for a refund unless...

Has anyone had their eyes lasered?

Be careful; the TV commercials claim an outrageously high rate of "customer satisfaction" but in reality many people are dissapointed because they still need glasses after surgery. There is also a significant risk of your eyes being damaged so make sure the surgeon is fully experienced. I can...

Cost to ship a bicycle from the USA to the UK?

Gah! I'm told I do have relatives somewhere in Canada but I've never met them and I don't think they've been to the UK for many years. *Sigh* All the best bicyles are thousands of miles away in North America. :(

Ah, I thought that would be the case. :(

Cost to ship a bicycle from the USA to the UK?

Does anyone know? I've spent ages searching the internet for a rough estimate but there is almost no information at all about international shipping. Is there an economical way to ship cheap bikes (worth around £500/$800) internationally?

    Sometimes Retro is better....

I know next to nothing about sports bicycles but I suspect you are right and it's because modern bicycles are set up to be closer to aggressive a$$-in-the-air racers; perfect for pro riders but hideously uncomfortable for normal human beings. Most people seem to go for the sportiest high-tech...

£500 budget: What's the coolest looking bike I can buy? (UK)

Roadsters sound interesting and while I was browsing Google Images (not for porn for once) I found a photo that by coincidence linked to a classic bicycles group website/blog by a guy in my own town. :) I'd have to give the Pashley Guv'nor a miss because it's more of a racer; great for real...

£500 budget: What's the coolest looking bike I can buy? (UK)

Ah, you've been to Exeter then. It was further up, all I can really remember is a big shiny custom bike in the window - must have been 5 years ago; the shop may be gone by now. But at least there are still two sex shops in Exeter. :) There's the Bike Shed nearby but I don't think...
