    Today's Ride

So, thanks to @pwebb, a pal and I got hold of free passes to the Gravel Rocks race round the fabulous Duncombe estate in North Yorkshire. It was a proper competitive event over the weekend with a short, sharp night stage and two more long rides over the hills and moors. Original thread. I opted...

Sorted 35mm bottom pull triple front deraileur

After a front mech with a 35mm clamp: bottom pull. Old school looks preferred, silvery, etc; suntour would be fab, but open to suggestions (e.g. campag seemed to do a lot of 35mm). Ta

*New* Vintage Bike Dilemma - Please Help

Design classic. High quality frame; well made, great steel, designed by Grant Petersen, light and fast, looks like a proper mountain bike, scarce, desirable.

the unofficial 'cool' 1980's Reynolds 531/501 bike thread

Hmmm. Or maybe a bunch of nice hipster parts slapped on an indifferent old welded frame and offered at c. 3x the real world value?

Wanted Araya RM25 rims, wheels; full bike?

I’m in need of a nice set of RM25s (silver and good nick like below). Would take a wheelset, or maybe a whole bike: what about that 80s beast with the huge frame that you keep meaning to get round to - yes over there in the corner behind the sun lounger and patio heater …..

    Alpinestars Cro Mega DX 1992

As I recall, there is enough clearance for proper tyres. In the pictures above it’s wearing 2.25” Rocket Rons.

Headset harmony: 3D tech helps 80s hero.

Similarly, I’ve used a fabric oil filter strap before, but as I’ve got a couple on the go (including a stubborn SOB) will have to splash out on some wrenches - noticed today that there are some repro ones about these days.

    Reynolds 531 decal information required!

The TI era ones are great, with writing and guarantees and psi figures: and when you see the red of 531 pro or the pink of 753 it’s a moment. Coolest one I had:

    Reynolds 531 decal information required!

What is striking is how bad it is as a sticker compared to most of the Reynolds stock: no information on the tubeset, poor layout and font - lazy and a guarantee of not much. I guess enshitification was always a thing.

Headset harmony: 3D tech helps 80s hero.

Yes, you’re right: I’ve just been trying it out on a stubborn frame that hasn’t been touched in an age and it’s struggling. Useful for adjusting good sets so you don’t scratch the finish, rather than wrangling shitters.

Headset harmony: 3D tech helps 80s hero.

One of my all time favourite components is a Shimano 600ex headset: beautifully over built, but with a finish that is as fragile as it is wonderful, and adorned with kooky non-standard star-shaped locking faces. They need a special tool which is often more expensive than the headset (or old...

    Wanted Diacompe dummies

First time I’ve seen these, but already thinking Champagne corks screwed to old brake clamps could be a thing. But why? Is it for a mid/centre of the bar grip?

    Screw on freehubs

The re-emergence of freewheels for e-bikes is intriguing (I tried to crack one but couldn’t 🤷‍♂️) but I think the OP first needs to go over to Sheldon, grab a brew, and do a bit of concentrated reading. Freehub freewheel explainer
