Shogun 'Dad Bike' - gRaVeL cOnVeRsIoN

Good Friday gravel ride with my brother. I snuck a snap of him on the Shogun. He's normally a roadie but I think he enjoyed both the dirt, and the bike! Post-ride marvel at how / where dust had collected. Signs of a grand day out. Thanks for reading!

Thank you! (That's not a complement that's thrown around lightly! ☺️)

Shogun Metro-1, 90's 700c Hybrid to Gravel Bike!

Looks like a fantastic base! I'm having some serious Baader-Meinhof at the moment as I'm seeing more and more Metros about the place, both online or chained up in service. Always lovely to see. Coincidentally, I spied this lovely build on Marketplace for a little inspiration which might...

Thanks for the love, guys! Little 'behind the bars' snap from the weekend (added to the cockpit views thread, naturally). Amazing! Super keen to see what you put together. Savour the build process and enjoy the ride! 🤙

Not with that attitude! Cheeky snap whilst enjoying a quick squirt on a relativley new build.

Outstanding! I absolutely adore this. I recently finished throwing parts at this chromoly Iron Horse Maverick I found curbside. Nothing flash, 100% utility. Should serve quite well as a pub bike!

Little update: knobbies! Tyres are Innova Pro Stampede in 700x40c, sourced from PRC on recommendation from a fellow tinker-er. A few notes: For a budget tyre, first impressions are very positive. Despite being quite tightly wrapped for shipment, they mounted up just find without strange...

Thanks! It rides very nicely indeed! Incredibly glad I stopped to take a closer look at the pile of hard rubbish on the side of the road! My favourte feature is the wee chain peg on the seat stay; a small and long forgotten courtesy / detail on modern bikes. Ha! Get on it! They're criminally...

Some see left over bar wrap, I see remnants of a cracking wrap job 🤙 Also, it's pretty much done! I am pretty stoked with how it's all come together. I shall get some proper snaps in daylight (after I've taken it for a spin of course!) Spec: Shogun Metro AT 4130 Templite Cro-mo...

The Saracen is lovely. DX is perhaps my favourite groupset of all time. Very well done! I actually have a Stridsland 94BCD chainring that I'm itching to use on a (nice) project but I have neither the crankset, or the project for it. Yet... Who knows, that chainring plus a sweet old...

Cheers @nstarmore! @joglo - I appreciate your thoughts. Just curious, what crank would you use? If I am honest, the 105 cranks are not quite to my tastes either. If I didn't already have these in the parts bin, I would have probably tried to hunt down something like the FSA Gossamer (in their...

Shogun 'Dad Bike' - gRaVeL cOnVeRsIoN

A key component has entered the chat: narrow-wide chainring. Truth be told, I would have loved to have fitted a wide-range double but the parts bin was somewhat lacking in supporting components (namely, a shifter and appropriate rings), so this slightly battered FC-5800 crankset will have to...

Progress report: I've raided the parts bin and mocked up a pile of parts into bicycle-shaped object. It's looking sweet folks and I'm very keen to throw a leg over it! The front brake took me a little while to sort as the brake cartridge+pad, even in the lowest possible setting, were...

Frame stripped, rust converter applied to exposed metal and paint given a good polish. It came up a treat! Let the re-assembly commence. I've made a few decisions about the direction this is going to go: Whilst the frame will accomidate a wider tyre, I think I'll stick around 700x40c for...

As with a previous project of mine, I’d like to first acknowledge that this isn’t an MTB. However it’s not a road bike either. And given the general spirit and appreciation that accompanies anything 90’s, chromoly, and featuring two wheels, I thought it acceptable to share. I present to you my...

How to spot a good restoration project?

Hiya! I just moved back to the colonies (West Island) after living in the UK for the last 7 years and I'll mirror the other's sentiments; cycle theft is virtually decriminalised in many parts of the country and will sadly cross your path sooner or later. My wife and I lost three bikes whilst we...

    Cotic BFe26

My wife has a set of the non-series MT500s on her ride and I think the MC design / layout is quite slick. By XT level however, that generation / shape starts to look a little, err, delicate (and that's even without a shifter hanging off it!) 665 levers x 810 calipers is a great combo! I have...
