Wheelies - Who can do them ?

I had a grifter and a body like a pipe cleaner so there was no way I was getting that front wheel in the air other than the split millisecond when I bunny'd the big bugger off a kerb 😂😂😂😂

Never really learned the knack as a kid and then growing older meant courage was lacking, now at 57 Id probably shatter something important and the wife would kill my ghost with extreme prejudice.

Learned to do them on a Grifter, then forgot; thought I’d better relearn on my adult MTB - scuffed up the mudguards….

(I have however passed on the importance of being able to wheelie to my boys who are proficient.)

I like wheelies. It definitely took me a number of years to be proficient, but it's fun. Once the basics are dialled in, almost every bike is wheelieable.
Manuals are way harder to learn. That's where I struggle. Being able to pull a manual is also a lot more dependent on the type of bike. So there is less chance to practice day-to-day.

Short stems and wide bars definitely help, though. And good brakes! Canti brakes suck at giving you confidence of being able to come back from beyond the tipping point.
