for £20 I couldn`t resist

Choppers. Shit kids bikes that get grown men frothing and command silly money.
Nostalgia's a powerful thing and no doubt people think the same of 90's MTBs.
If it floats your boat I guess it can't be wrong. :)

Also, I'm too young to have been there when they came out which is possibly why I don't get it?
Living in Nottingham as a kid, I'm not too young to have been there I'm afraid, - I had a Chopper mk1 (orange) the 1st batch were Mustard. had it a year or two before the dreaded happened. in that the rear forks snapped just above where the wheel bolts on - both sides, clean break - My mum, bless her, gave Raleigh hell citing "this could have killer her little Cherub" :) ..........so i was invited to collect a brand new bike from Gate 19 aka The Crown Island in Nott`m ..........OH dear ! as soon as i got on it to ride home it wasn`t good news , much narrower handlebars which were fixed was the worst thing, the shorter seat & new gear knob i could live with....but the bars were shyte !

If i recall right you got a 10% discount on the Chopper if any family member worked at Raleigh, so basically anyone in the pub you knew who did, got you the bike for you for a couple of beers. with discount = £29 exact ....so about £32-17/6d without or about - gangs of friends all had Choppers, one being an export model destined for US market in a lovely metallic green as his Dad worked in the paint shop - also in Nottingham at the same time was the headquarters for Puch - Their Hi-riser was owned by a couple of friends, I seem to recall them being very Schwinn-like 20" wheels - much lighter & faster

Ahhhhh the good old days

No, Matra built the Espace first generation. The Simca 1100 was already old when the ranchettaeroathingy was conceived

The idea of using plastic panels maybe but the BX was there waiting in the (plastic) wings
