A cool and quality frameset that’s not my size so an opportunity for someone here to take it on.
Made in 1993 according to the frame number (appears to be 9307). By Vernon Barker, the “B” of MB Dronfield, near Sheffield as I understand it.
It looks straight, no damage and no real dinks. Components were removed without a big fight. Threads are good.
The paint is obviously original. You can’t beat those early nineties looks. Condition is generally good with vibrant colour. However there is surface rust, most notably to the top tube cable stops, lower front head tube, bottom bracket cable guides and lower top tube, in that order. You could ride it as a beater or trainer but I’d see it as requiring a sensitive touch-up restoration, not a repaint. The bottom bracket shell internal and seat tube internal show no material corrosion. The decals are good.
Reynolds 531 Competition tubes. Reynolds dropouts. Seat tube 23.5” c-t, 23” c-c. Top tube 22.5” c-c. Head tube 7”. Rear spacing 130mm. Seat post 27.2 mm. Headset 1”. BB 68mm, British threads. Tyre clearance: it came with 23mm. It looked like 25mm was okay, maybe more but I can’t vouch for either with certainty.
Comes with its original Stronglight A9 alloy needle bearing headset (not pictured) which I am cleaning up. It’s cosmetically good. There is minor corrosion to the lower bearings but I reckon they would be serviceable. Also comes with the original seat tube pinch bolt.
I’ve rescued this and cleaned it up so you can see what’s what. Tempting as it is to get my brushes out, it’s time for someone taller to take it on and make it fly. More pics or Qs - just ask. £75 collected from Greenwich or + postage at cost.
