Wanted 1 1/8 rigid forks wanted for old Saracen - 150mm head tube

Hello all.

I have a Saracen Terratrax frame, which I'd like to get back in use. However, it has no forks. It is either a 1998 or 1997 I believe. it has a 150mm head tube. It looks as if the Terratrax originally came with an A-style fork, but I don't mind if what goes on is that, or threaded. So, I need to obtain some forks. On the other hand, as it happens, I have a set of forks, from another bike, different brand, but they are for a 26 inch wheel, and are threaded. But they are just too long on the steerer tube, in that, the threaded part starts too high up, i.e. above the top of the Saracen's head tube, by about 8mm or so. Perhaps, I could cut the thread to run a bit further down those forks ? I think it would a "die" that I would need for that ? (and knowledge of the thread size of course). My other idea was, to put a spacer, at the bottom of the steerer tube, below its lower race (if that's possible - I havent' looked too carefully - that was just one of those ideas that you have in the bath etc).

So, if anyone has any forks, or good advice, it would be welcome.

Thanks

Rusty.

What colour is your frame? I've got some Marin rockstar rigid forks that might work depending on how long a steerer you'd need with an ahead stem arrangement. I suspect my forks may be too short, a 150mm head tube is long, are you including the headset in that measurement or is it just the steerer tube?

Hello Ishaw.

Thank you for your reply.

Yes, 150mm is the head tube, excluding the headset.

I take it that your forks are threadless ?

The frame is blue, but the colour is not hugely important, no doubt i could splash a bit of paint over any suitable forks.

Best regards

Rusty.
