The two riders closest to the camera. What is likely to be down the backs of their jerseys? Certainly looks to be something stashed down there? Team leaders/sprinters wouldn’t be carrying anything as this looks like a sprint ? An early go at aerodynamics?

ISTR that they were wet sponges or something similar, that year's TdF was unusually hot. Think it was the year when some riders wore sleeveless jerseys and then suffered with sunburned biceps.
Quite likely making the official film of the race to distribute to the media, long before technology allowed them make the tech small enough to do it from the back of a motorcycle.
From memory he had a right wobbly about that picture, and was very vocal about journalists not respecting "a private moment".

I love the Canadian National Exhibition. I went a few times but haven’t been since 1970. I used to see young beautiful Indian women, all dolled up, get on the train to Toronto for the Exhibition. The train used to stop to pickup passengers back in the bush, just a trail from the woods to the tracks. The RR quit doing this.

I haven't been since the 80s. The Blue Jays used to play at Exhibition Stadium, "the Mistake by the Lake", the worst stadium in sports. I remember one time we had seats that were behind a brick pillar. "Oh, you wanted to watch the game? Those tickets are to attend the game."
