Turned out very nice. I like the RST fork better. Like you said, the MAGs don't really work very well. But this reminds me I really need to get a ball burnished hardtail GT for my stable...

I think 3000 DM was around 3000 euro, so quite expensive bike back then. Maybe you can have it stipped, then nickel plated again :) I know nickel plating small parts is quite feasible at home, but the frame is of course a bit too large.

Yeah, it got bike of the year award on the Dutch MTB forum. Unfortunately I had to sell the bike to get the next one. I know it's hapily riding somewhere in Germany right now :)

The exogrid was unobtainium back then. I had a 2007 RacerX in off-white with matching Fox fork. Was a super fun bike and only replaced it when I tested a 29er Rocky Mountain Element in 2012.

I found a set of Smoke/Dart tires for not too much money (but they're not the folding type). I also found some nice Shimano XT V-brakes with the parallelogram. I know they are not period correct, but I like to have some stopping power on my bikes and these are such iconic brakes. I should...

I found a retailer that offered the non-folding version of Smoke/Dart, so I bought two sets :) Put one set on the RTS.

It really needs the black rims and tan wall tires. Looks cool!

You can use any metal polish I guess. Like Belgom or Sonax or Unipol. Depending on the start state it will take an hour to a couple of days :) and very black fingers if you don't wear gloves.
