what to go for, touring or hybrid

You could always try a bike fit, or use a diy calculator such as this? https://weightweenies.starbike.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=51071&sid=c66b95baef28bc3a1c8bbc8e319d185b I had good results with it, provided a good starting point when I returned to cycling after a 10 yr layoff when I seemed to...

    Best Tools I Ever Bought

I’ve found that all my bikes have built in wheel holders, perfect for wheel building and trueing duties. You can even flip the wheel round to check dishing! Sturdy, but not very simple - there’s loads of additional features like steering and gears, and even a saddle which I struggle to use when...

    Best Saddle Ever!

I won a Colt for finishing second in a race at Harrogate as a lad, sold it in disgust! Ridiculous prize for a 17yr old 🤣

    Best Saddle Ever!

I’ll let you know. Currently putting Swifts on my bikes having ridden one for the past couple of years, but spotted a ti swallow on eBay so that will be put on my Gazelle. Fingers crossed…

Motorcycle recommission project - Suzuki GS750

And none of my centre punches would even scratch the easy-out, I was lucky enough to be able to hold the workpiece (fork) at the right angle to start the drill cutting without skating off to the side

Motorcycle recommission project - Suzuki GS750

I’ve just had to drill an easy-out out of the low-rider boss on my new (to me) galaxy, slow and gentle on a pillar drill with a tungsten carbide bit did the trick. I’d think very hard before using an easy-out again… A tungsten carbide bit is essential as it’s about the only thing that will chew...

    Top Speed, which Brakes?

I’ve never been one for max speed either, chickened out today heading north off Sheriffmuir when I remembered the cattle grid. I still remember one of the old boys in my club hurling past me on fixed coming down Whinlater into Portinscale.

I think it’s hard to value as we don’t know really what it is yet. The number you gave from the forks may be irrelevant, as the forks may be a replacement. And old bikes aren’t fetching as much as previously. It’s still nice tho.

Maybe, I wouldn’t doubt what your dad said. I do note however that the front fork ends look like forged without mudguard eyes, and the rear dropouts look very like 40s heavy plate (very similar material to my holdsworth) with mudguard eyes. My bet is only one pair are original, and I’d bet on...

The top of the seat stays looks nice too, that might provide some more clues? Can’t see it well enough in these photos.

Re your serial number on the fork, I don’t think you know that the fork is original as it has cantilever bosses brazed on. Can you find another serial number elsewhere? Bottom bracket?
