The one and only "HOW MUCH IS MY xyz WORTH" forum

Re: 1996 Marzocchi Z2 Bam 'bombers' forks. I guess the forks are worth about £80 but I also have soft springs, bushing/seal/wiper kit and the manual which I thought might add a bit of value?

    Mech conversion, possible?

If I reverse the spring it would make the mech work with bottom pull, but I am not sure if being top ring normal would be horrible or not, I am also not sure if the sharp angle at the cable clamp would cause too much stress on the cable. The rear derailler is rapid rise so the front mech being...

    Mech conversion, possible?

Re: I've got a 31.8mm clamp, top swing, i'd need to check if a bottom swing mech would fit below the bottle cage boss. Based on the earlier post/picture it looks like the pivot&spring can be interchanged from the bottom pull to the top pull on the top swing mech at least.

    Mech conversion, possible?

ARRGGGGG, now I am even more frustrated. I had a bottom pull 950 mech with a broken cage but it went to the charity bikehub with most of my other spare parts when I emigrated to Singapore. Anybody got a bottom pull arm to swap for my top pull one? My mech is NOS too. Otherwise I might try try...

    Seized Seatpost - Revisited

Get a can of freeze spray, if you are going to replace the seatpost then you can drill a small hole on the side of the seatpost and spray directly into it. If you want to try and keep the seatpost then best to take out the BB and spray in to the seatpost from there although you can blast the...

    Mech conversion, possible?

I've just done something pretty stupid. I finally found a NOS XTR M952 front mech in the local classifieds with the right clamp size so I excitedly bought it and installed it on my bike. I couldn't work out why I was having problems adjusting the mech and it was then that I realised that I was...

How did I miss this...(Middleburn closed it's doors)

I guess you were busy riding your bike for the last month :D SJS's pricing, well it is supply vs demand I guess. They should definitely remove the halo from their logo though.

    Stuck seatpost? Freeze it out......

Haha. Sorry, sometimes I forget I am a man of science. Basically a larger number means that the material changes size more with temperature. So for cooling to work the captive part needs to have a larger number than the part surrounding it, for heating to work the captive part needs to have a...

Posting Pictures & Resolution Issues - any advice & tips ?

The general way of doing it is to resize the picture to a sensible web display size, e.g. 1000px wide and save as a high quality jpeg (e.g. 98% quality), then it is generally well below 514Kb with minimal quality loss. I've not used a phone app that lets me specify the jpeg quality although...

    '97 GT Xizang

Re: Thanks, that is good to know. I guess mine would look pretty similar to that one if I repolished it and put on new decals. It has the U-brake mount but is obviously quite a bit newer so the authentic decals don't look quite as awesome :) I'm still trying to arrange a test ride on something...

Air Bag as a cycle helmet?

Just seen video for this on facebook filled with people doing a bunch of simulated crash somersaults to demonstrate it. Things I wonder about about are. -Is it safer than a helmet -Is it really more convenient than a helmet looks like a reasonable bulk to wear around the neck. -Battery life? Are...

    Stuck seatpost? Freeze it out......

I thought it was quite common to do this, I've been freeing stuff by blasting it with my air compressor :P Cooling should work just as well for Aluminium post inside titanium, probably work for carbon fibre too Other combinations, e.g. carbon or Ti post in Alu frame, might not work quite as...

Mystery Aluminium o , calling Orange experts !

My guess would be supported by 'Jack'

    Which frame builder,

Eeeek, how did that bike get mangled on the front of the seat tube? It's carbon bonded to cro-mo tubes and then TIG welded together. So in theory anybody with a TIG welder and epoxy resin could do it, although I think there are good reasons why this method of building frames didn't catch on ;)

    They are bikes not 'rigs'!

surely it is Full Suspension Racing
