Looking at the photo's, this looks like it could be entirely fixable.
If it was me, I would be slicing down through the seat post with a recip saw, being careful not to go right through to the titanium. Then grind a chisel to the approximate diameter of the seat tube and drive it...

Thanks for the advice. Might steer clear of them and go for separate lever / shifters as suggested, unless I can pick up some cheapies just for an experiment!

Could it be to save having to carry a BB tool when touring?? BB would lock with 5mm allen key rather than lock rings. Would also allow fine tuning of the chain line.

It is many years since I had a bike shipped from the UK, but last time intercargo did a good job and was quite cost effective.
