Yes, safety/stopping was my main concern too. South London is fairly flat I suppose, but stopping with a full load could be interesting.
Is it pretty straightforward to get parts for rod brakes? Excuse my ignorance...

So, an update -
I've been offered a vintage 'ice cream' bike to use in the project. I've been to look at it and it seems basically in fairly good order - but it uses rod brakes and (as you can see) the fitting is broken...

Thanks! Hopefully it will be brilliant, but there's a lot to do. I want to get it finished by the end of April ideally, so any help or advice will be much appreciated - and repaid several times over in food.
