It would explain the original `Smoke' bike, which doesn`t make a lot of sense to me as a hybrid/leisure ride. The frame is way prettier and more suitable as a mountainbike in my humble opinion.
Thanks for all your input blokes. I'm currently riding a Kona (viewtopic.php?f=21&t=298400) and now finally have some time to built up this Univega. I did trace down a complete mid 90's Deore XT derailleur/shifter set and also tanned Tioga Psychos so I'm anxious to see what it is going to look like!

I can agree with all you say. I will try to weigh the bike soon (dont own a scale myself). It's geometry is super quick, but you can definitely tell it's a steel bike when riding uphill. Love riding it though, especially on technical tracks.
