a very special PUCH road racer sold for € 2800

It may be bolted to a flange welded to the RH seat tube. It's a lot of work for a small shortening of the wheelbase. It must be wsorth it though.

More pics of 1958 Raleigh Sports

Whoops - I've been posting stuff about my 1958 Raleigh Sports on the skinny wheeled road bike thread. Anyway, here are some more pics of it. I'm fairly pleased about this bike, as you can see: My wife doesn't believe that this strut is to support one's balls...

    1958 Raleigh Sports

Thanks Jonny. I've more or less decided not to try to do any painting or replating at this stage (although maybe replating later - the rods etc look fantastic when shiny) but just to clean it, oil it, protect it and ride it, as you say. I grew up on a farm and the first thing we did with a...

Sedate, yes, but think of the momentum you'd get up going downhill! I read on Sheldon Brown that the American models were shipped without the chainguard because there was a tax on bikes weighing over 40lbs (18kgs)! They say that by the mid 20th century, the steel bicycle had been improved to...

I've just got my 'new' bike home, ready to think what to do with it. My wife doesn't believe that this strut is to support one's balls.

    Mother of all barn finds

As I said, I'm no bicycle expert, despite always having had a bike. I just took whatever I've been riding for granted. I've had one new bike in my life - a thing with small fat white tyres my parents gave me for Christmas when I was about ten. Then I had my bro's hand me down - a proper adult...

    Mother of all barn finds

The shed owner says he has a box of old lights and lanterns from the bikes. We shall see. I'll report progress. There are some odd setups there. Not many spokes in the front wheel in pic 3, and what appear to be radial spokes in the back wheel of the foreground bike in pic 1.

Humorous ebay advert for some cheap pedals.

    Thanks for the laugh!

    Mother of all barn finds

Spot on, bagpuss. All joking aside, the phrase 'ka-ching!' did occur to me as I looked at the pics. There are some fearsome prices being paid on line in the US for unrestored pre-war racers and quality make road bikes. I'm looking forward to finding what might be in there. Thanks for the tip...

There goes the back lawn. Death by WD40. Although most of the rust etc will buff out...

    1958 Raleigh Sports

I was just admiring your Yellow Peril on another thread... Yes, it looks sort of solid and upright, like an old Triumph twin. It's so well made too. Almost everything looks engineered - turned or milled or whatever. They were built to be an alternative to a car, I suppose, or the original...

The question is, what colour clothes will you wear?

    Mother of all barn finds

Someone who knows I like old cars directed me to a property in the back blocks near here, which I duly visited and found full of old cars. I have no room for more cars nor do I want a divorce, but there was also a sort of bicycle graveyard, literally a pile of bikes in a shed, which the owner...

    Hi from another newbie

I had a totty on that trip too - no bikini though, and shy. As I said, I know it's a bike forum, but I can't help myself... The 100/4 that was sold to the public was pretty much the same car Healey's ran at Le Mans that year (with tragic results - google Macklin Healey Le Mans). It's a...
