VCB Nice continuation of the "self ef-faeces-ing" theme.
I can see why you want to refinish that frame. I'm stuck with a couple of bikes with original fade paint, IMO it's never looked good.
Seeing as I can't find a "retrocooker " site I will go further off thread and say that cooker looks...
There are relevant subjects that haven't been covered.
Raleigh UK have got off quite lightly. The picture of the rear end of the frame
has disappeared from the beginning of this thread. I don't know why.
I don't think there has been a critical look at the reason the frames weigh so much.
Are...
LGF "(although I am often rolled in glitter)"
That's what's known as "self ef-faeces-ing" humour. I like it.
Inspired by torqueless's "rough old sketchwork" I've been busy with my crayons.
Very rough concept for some more accurate decals on the 40th anniversary frames.
Seriously though, they...
"I think it is pretty clear who has done the heavy lifting of diligent research into this subject, and whose online resource is most likely to prove useful as a reference"
I agree with this.
I think it depends on whether it's possible to make a day out (or longer) of it.
Usually I reckon about 80 miles each way.
Worst trip many years ago was Exeter to London on the train only to arrive just as the bike was being strapped to the roofrack of a Morris traveller. The seller obviously...
Wharf Road eh?
Pongo Braithwaite and Aende.
I'd visited Raleigh because I wanted to photograph high quality bike making. I went to the SBDU site Ilkeston in, I think, February 1987. It was a miserable day and it was deserted. I then visited Sid Standard (and Peter Riches). I then visited...
If you do find a time machine.
Just in case you want to ring the SBDU I'll repost this from earlier in the thread. I really did pick this up from Raleigh main reception on Triumph Road in 1987. Brailsford? Any relation I wonder.
"Raleigh Japan And Raleigh USA as we know are different companies to Raleigh UK . They have a more discerning market for anything retro ."
Bagpuss absolutely nails it.
The Araya Japan site is interesting (so long as you don't look at the small wheel bikes). If I'd bought one of the UK 40th...
"Aaaand back full circle"
Abso bloomin' lutely.
This thread seems to be nailed to the perch and is beginning to smell a bit rank like the last one.
I was genuinely excited at the prospect of an accurate replica.
I've seen how one of the frames built with vintage components can look fabulous...
I just about survived.
I think after growing up with Weinmann sidepulls on steel rims, centrepulls on alloy rims were a revelation. I think I only realised quite recently that brakes could be used for stopping and not just slowing down a bit.
More than one crash I had was down to hopeless...
