'89 to '93 were lugged and from '91 to '93 trek used oversized tubing. Singletracks of all years are known for being great touring bikes though. High quality, well made, true temper steel bikes that don't die.
Too bad they don't make bike tubes out of TT anymore. All the more reason to get an...
What's funny is Bontrager made a frame one size larger which was the XXLS, with the "S" standing for stretch. It had a 25" TT with a 150mm stem  That is some reach.
Same for me. My XXL Bonty, which used to be great for my 6'4" (1.93m) frame with it's 24" TT and 150mm stem now feels way too stretched. It is really fast set up this way, but I will be switching to a shorter stem as even short <5mile rides now hurt my back afterwords. After many...
Re: Re:
Couldn't agree more about the geo of the stumpjumper before suspension. One of the reasons I think I like my trek so much is the great geo which is virtually identical geo as a team stumpy. Perfect for old school xc singletracks.
Re: Re:
Wow, great stuff! Thanks for the info. Although I thought trails was a North West thing, not east.
Another interesting thing about this find is that the bike project i bought the Montagna at also had this for sale along with the matching fork. Hmmmmm...
My three favorite frames are all steel and are, in no particular order, my '88 MB1, my '91 singletrack and my '93 bonty race.
I still own the first "real" mtb I ever bought, my lugged 1991 Trek Singletrack 970 and it is still to this day the bike I ride the most. Almost stock with exception of...
Re: What frame is this? Can you guess?
Nice looking ride! Love all the cool and unique details. Curious how the BB area looks a lot like the one on the montagna. So I am wondering if the montagna was made in the same factory as your offroad? Do you know where your bike was made?
Also, it...
The X-1 is interesting. I originally thought it was just a simple push-push and was quite confused the first time I went to shift. The front mech is more like a friction shifter, at least I did not notice any indexing. I have only taken the bike out on 2 rides so far and it does work quite well...
Just picked this 1990 Trek Singletrack 930. 8) It is in great condition with original tires! Had to get a new stem and handlebar as the originals were replaced with some garbage high rise stem and bars  Pretty sure the seat is not original either, but still some whiskers on the Trek...
Re: Re:
Ya, wanted to get the pics up last night, but really busy last 2 days with work.
Aright, so here is the frame and all its high BB glory. Now, what in the hell is Montagna Innovations?
^nice pick up! Looks like it has a Noleen Shock with pre-load and rebound adjust. The rebound was pretty cool back then. Noleen will still service it for you.
Strange thing about that bike is all the pics of the 857 I can find on the webs have a carbon fiber swing arm like the 957. I wonder if...
Re: What frame is this? Can you guess?
No correct guesses so far.
Alright, so last picture before I post the whole frame/fork with decals. This is definitely a unique frame design. I am really hoping someone here knows what this frame is all about because I am very curious. (if you are...
