Thanks for the links; I’m UK based and just after the post I stumbled across some old Halfords double ended stock from eBay. Looks like it should do the trick but I do remember back in the 90s finding a few where certain models wouldn’t fit into the aperture in the shifter so I’ll try the...
Hmm, after a lot of hard work and toil my '90 Explosif was nearly finished back in June when had to go away for the start of our guiding seasoni in Andorra - the only thing left to do was fit the cables and she's good to go....BUT
I popped back for a week off, and have reaslied that I can't...
Progress is finally happening - I may start building this week!!
First off, an update about restoring the frame - especially as this thread may help others who are doing a similar project:
DECALS - I obtained graphics from Gil_M - it took some to'ing and fro'ing but we eventually came up with...
Who can guess what I have been up to this afternnon?
It s all over my feet, legs, hands, arms, beaard and up my nose...some of it even ended up on the frame!
I seem to remember that even back in 1990 the XC Pro pedal was hugely expensive! I was very lucky, as mine came from the factory with full XC Pro instead of Comp - which is why my build has gone that route too. It’s beautiful stuff and really lasted well - the only bit I ended up breaking was...
I actually got super lucky; Adrian (Raidan73) very kindly donated some hangers recently; so I have a lovely shiny pair of Suntour ones now! :)
Thanks so much for the kind words - really cool to know other people understand the personal meaning these things can have to each of us - and I’ll keep...
The paint was really good, but the graphics were buggered, and I’m doing this bike for highly personal reasons, and trying to get it as close to new as I can manage. I spent a loooong time debating whether to take them off, trust me! But once the splattering is reapplied it will hopefully look...
Sorry; must have posted it into the wrong area by mistake...
And the decals (especially the top tube) were knackered which is why I’m replacing them, and re-splattering them as I mentioned...
Cheers, I have dropped him a line - aswell as a couple of other people; hopefully they’ll provide some sage wisdom! I’m using this thread to record my whole build, so it might be helpful to others doing something similar in future hopefully :)
So, this is where I am at now:

I am getting suddenly very excited; it's no longer a concept, it's becoming a bike again :D
As you can see, I need to splatter the graphics (any tips and hints welcome on technique) - and then Gil has suggested clear...
This weekend was spent, hairdryer in hand, trying to get my technique dialled removing the 29 year old graphics - some of which (I am looking at *you* , top tube b@stard) REALLY did not want to come off.

Also, I have had the Velocity stem (which was buggered, but has the internal routing, so was desperate to keep) stripped, repainted and clear coated. I had that back about a month agpo, but I have been trying to work out graphics colours and edits with Gil_M for what must seem to him to be a...
