LOL @ Ping Off
Compared to my 531 Ellis Briggs it has a unique Ping to it, which I can only put down to thinner tubing being used.
I've only been out on the bike twice since ownership. Cycled 1 mile down the road the other Sunday, to see the 'Tour of Britain' go past in Lowestoft and got...
Thanks for the help and further advice on this.
Like a classic Ferrari, I just want to know that its 100% Genuine and not a concoction of left over parts from a corner of a workshop.
I know I got the bike cheap considering the chainset is worth nearly the same on its own. Just worst case...
*Update*
Bike was recently booked into a local specialist for new handle bar tape and tyres.
I did ask the shop to remove the bottom bracket to check for silver solder. After a week I went to pick up the bike and the shop confirmed they did not take off the bottom bracket as the chainset...
Finally had the chance to see both specialists.
First one believes it is a 753 frame due to the sound of the frame when you ping it.
Second one believes its a 653 frame as mentioned before the warranty would have been void if the frame was chromed.
In the next couple of weeks its being...
I emailed the seller again just to see if he could shed anymore light on the bike. This is what he came back with.
The chroming was already on the bike, so when I had it re-enamelled I asked the guy doing it to make sure the chrome was intact!
The 753 decal was replaced when the frame was...
WOW they look awesome built up after just winning a frame on ebay locally. Made the classic mistake of not reading the auction text properly and thought this is a Racing bike lol
Still fancy restoring it to its glory and your pictures will help me track down some original parts.
Great find.
My 2nd favourite livery behind the Raleigh Banana.
Remember buying a brand new frame from JD Whiskers in Geoffs Oak Herts when I was a teenager.
Managed to see one of the specialist's who has some seriously nice vintage bikes in near mint condition. All the bikes were soaked in high end campagnolo parts.
He believes the bike is a 753 frame as the headset fitted is Campagnolo Super Record and has that different noise flicking the frame...
The retired seller seemed a genuine bloke with 2 other tasty bikes in his collection and lots of cycling memorabilia on the walls.
Visiting 2 local specialists today to see what they think.
I have just noticed tonight that the rear lug pictured near the cassette has 'Campagnolo' stamped on the frame which I have never seen before on a frame.
Also I dusted off the scales and weighed each bike as surely a 753 should be much lighter ??
I weigh 13 Stone 4
Holding 753 Bike it...
Thanks for the comments.
I think like myself potential buyers were wary that it had no builders name on the bike so bid accordingly. Lucky for me the guy was only down the road from me in Norwich.
Also if it is a top end bike why would you fit Simano 105 brakes ??
The guy selling it has...
