    Frame size question

Re: @jonny69 My inside leg is 31", so I'm pretty average sizewise.

    Frame size question

This is all the kinds of stuff I need help with. I'd thought about the brakes, but not the axle. Just checked on nutted/recessed brakes and mine are recessed, which I'm guessing are more modern. It is a minefield out there sometimes for a noob.

    Frame size question

Interesting what you say about the numbness in the hands, which I also get. When I'm riding, the seatpost is about as far down as it can go, which suggests the bike is too big. I also have the saddle about as far forward as it will go on it's rails. I was thinking I'd be having to buy a second...

    Frame size question

I inherited an early 90s Peugeot road bike a few years ago. Just recently I've been getting aches and pains in my back and shoulders after longer rides. After measuring the frame and doing some reading I realize that the frame is way to big. I've measured the seat tube at 61cm, which is for...

    Early nineties Peugeot Altus

Picked this up in virtually unused condition some 18 months ago and sadly it's not been well cared for. It had sat in a garage for 23 years and the anodising on the rims was still factory fresh. It was my first ever road bike (coming from an MTB background) and I couldn't get used to the drops...

    Heresy... Or just sensible updates?

Ok... so here she is after a few upgrades. New saddle, new brake levers, new tyres, borrowed pedals, stem and bars. Much prefer the MTB bars for better/quicker braking but they are maybe a bit wide. And I'll maybe get some bar ends so I can vary hand position.

    Heresy... Or just sensible updates?

Thanks for the help... TBH i tend to ride fairly upright I guess, holding the part of the bar nearest me. I doubt that changing the levers for a different set will make any difference... it really was that painful. I do suffer some pains on the MTB, but not from braking. I run the Ergon grips...

    Heresy... Or just sensible updates?

Tried changing the position of the bars on the ride... no good :-( Stem size... dang, .6mm out ;-) So will 25.4 not fit? Even with a shim? And brake levers... :-) Happy to keep with the down tube mounted shifters i already have.

    Heresy... Or just sensible updates?

The brakes are fine in themselves... plenty of stopping power. It's the change of grip on the drops (compared to a flat MTB bar) that is causing the problem - especially on steep down sections. The combination of gravity pushing the base of my thumbs onto the bar and the hand position pulling on...

    Heresy... Or just sensible updates?

The braking issue... I think I might be getting arthritis TBH. When trying to pull hard on the brakes downhill, whilst gravity is pushing me onto the bars as well, just gave severe pain/stiffness in my hands. I couldn't grip the the levers hard enough for long enough. It's not a problem I...

    Heresy... Or just sensible updates?

Ok... been riding the bike for a couple of weeks now and the first couple of changes have made a difference. The new tyres take the sting out of the road and the saddle is pretty comfy so far. The one thing I can't get used to are the drop bars. It's the braking mainly... I came down a steep...

Thanks. So I can just measure the length of the BB then? And then google the difference between ISO and JIS and check with the vendor...?
