I just picked up a 1950 (dated by hub) Rudge. Can anyone help me identify which model it is? I can't find one similar online. It might become my second restoration project, but it's a bit daunting. Most of it looks ok, but the rims with rod brakes might be tricky. Has anyone had rims rechromed...

Re: The economics of vintage bikes is really strange. New tyres and bar tape would be another, say, £40. But the value of the bike doesnt really reflect that. Plus time spent polishing.... Maybe I will never understand economics! Would be a shame if nobody wanted it though.

Re: Midlife, you were my best hope after identifying the Corsa! If there's no catalogue entry I feel entitled to put a modern groupset on it and put some miles on it! No cable routing for derailleurs though, what did they expect people to do?

While my Carlton Corsa is being repainted, I found this rather nice Carlton Gran Tour online. Couldn't resist! However, I can't find any information online about it. It's strangely set up now as 'fixie', but actually with a 5 speed cassette and no derailleurs. It also has flat handlebars...

Can somebody please help me identify this Triumph? It weighs a ton, so I wonder if it's worth keeping. My hunch is no, but I wanted to check I wasn't scraping something worthwhile. There's no front derailleur, but quite a good looking crankset with two chain rings.

Re: Sadly it seems you're right. Stripped it down tonight and found purple paint under the head badge. The frame weighs around 2.5kg. Thanks for your help!

Thanks for the reply. What about the 531 sticker? It wasn't sold to me, so I doubt it's been put on to increase value. Unless that was years ago. Is there any way to identify frame material otherwise? Do you have any advice on restoring the frame?
