    Carlton Gran Tour

Re: Hi Howard, All I got to was that it was sold as a frameset in 1980 and made in Worksop. It's a lovely frame though, the full 531 ST is fantastic. What size is yours? If it's small I'd be super interested in getting a matching one for my long suffering other half! Would love to see a photo...

    Identify this 1950 Rudge please?

I just picked up a 1950 (dated by hub) Rudge. Can anyone help me identify which model it is? I can't find one similar online. It might become my second restoration project, but it's a bit daunting. Most of it looks ok, but the rims with rod brakes might be tricky. Has anyone had rims rechromed...

    Carlton 531 Identification

Re: The economics of vintage bikes is really strange. New tyres and bar tape would be another, say, £40. But the value of the bike doesnt really reflect that. Plus time spent polishing.... Maybe I will never understand economics! Would be a shame if nobody wanted it though.

    Carlton 531 Identification

Re: Hi Mike, thanks for the suggestions, they are all good points. Apart from the lamp holder, not sure that adds anything! I was trying to get it to a stage to try it out, then found out it was the wrong size and was put off doing any more. The bar tape was a bit of a mistake, but is super...

    Carlton 531 Identification

Thought I would update this thread with some finished photos. Unfortunately, it's too small for me. But it was great fun doing it so I'm looking forward to my next project! Bike available on ebay soon!

    Carlton Gran Tour

Rebuld plans So I took the bike apart, everything was easy and the frame's in great condition. Just a few chips, which I will chip painted. Plan for the rebuild is tricky though. I want something really usable, and I don't have a full suntour groupset to use! So I was thinking of putting 700c...

    Carlton Gran Tour

Re: I saw that and looks amazing. But £650?! Wasn't convinced that was the original set up, hence my question. Would love to find a brochure listing.

    Carlton Gran Tour

Re: Midlife, you were my best hope after identifying the Corsa! If there's no catalogue entry I feel entitled to put a modern groupset on it and put some miles on it! No cable routing for derailleurs though, what did they expect people to do?

    Carlton Gran Tour

While my Carlton Corsa is being repainted, I found this rather nice Carlton Gran Tour online. Couldn't resist! However, I can't find any information online about it. It's strangely set up now as 'fixie', but actually with a 5 speed cassette and no derailleurs. It also has flat handlebars...

Triumph Cycle - scrap it or save it?

Re: Isn't this a BSO though? What are it's redeeming features? Any idea the model or year? I think it says 47899 on the BB, but hard to read. Could start with an A.

Triumph Cycle - scrap it or save it?

Can somebody please help me identify this Triumph? It weighs a ton, so I wonder if it's worth keeping. My hunch is no, but I wanted to check I wasn't scraping something worthwhile. There's no front derailleur, but quite a good looking crankset with two chain rings.

    Carlton 531 Identification

Re: Sadly it seems you're right. Stripped it down tonight and found purple paint under the head badge. The frame weighs around 2.5kg. Thanks for your help!

    Carlton 531 Identification

Thanks for the reply. What about the 531 sticker? It wasn't sold to me, so I doubt it's been put on to increase value. Unless that was years ago. Is there any way to identify frame material otherwise? Do you have any advice on restoring the frame?

    Carlton 531 Identification

I've just acquired a Carlton, and was looking for some help identifying it please! There is a frame number on the left dropout that read "0195314", which I read means it is a '68-'72 model. It has a 531 sticker, but no model name. Looking at the brochure I can't find a matching model. The...
