1/8 is 28mm wide whilst the wider 1/4 is 32 mm. In theory the narrower tyre should be easier to cover distance but less compy on your rump.

Yes I did. The ones I found are narrower. Not much choice for 27" wheels.

Woops. I knew there was something I ment to add. Have been looking for 27 x 1/8 tyres. Found some here in the UK but not gum.walls! Plenty in the USA but postage is another thing.

I had also been watching this Carlton on ebay. Thought it looked pretty original. The distance killed it for me or I could have been tempted. Just bought a Corsair for £40.00 plus £20.00 delivery. All original. Chuffed with my purchase. Would be grateful if you can advise on the brake levers...

Had a good look at the handlebars tonight and there is no markings to mention of just pure chrome which have cleaned up nicely. I don't think it has been touched for years but I did not those Sun Tour Power Shifters work a treat. Washed and polished the framedown. Generally not in bad shape...
