Cliff Peters Cycle Shop, Aston. Any info out there on him?

Just rediscovered this thead after several years absence, apologies. Some great info and recollections being added, thank you all! This is the last time I rode Walters bike, back in May 2018. (I did a few ten mile TT's with the local club on it that summer too) Walter died in June this year, a...

c1956 BSA Tour of Britain - too far gone to restore?

This BSA has now moved on to a new owner. Jason is a BSA enthusiast and was looking for a proper BSA made ToB and this fitted the bill. Thanks Jason, good luck with it!

    1950s tour of the Loire.

Yes, more so from tourists actually. They seem to be more curious than the locals, asking if there is a local vintage event on they should know about, or if it's some sort of charity ride we are on. Always feel like a bit of a spanner saying no, we just like riding old bikes and wearing old...

Another french classic : 1938 Narcisse

Just found this thread and read with fascination from beginning to now! A beautiful machine, and lovely to see it's sympathetic and preservation and restoration.

    1950s tour of the Loire.

Here's another trip we did in 2015. If the Somme tour photos didn't give you itchy pedals, these definitely will! https://www.flickr.com/photos/29051501@ ... 5383824750 A real mixture of bikes, from heavy 'old' pre war Roadsters, to 'modern' post war lightweights. All overloaded with camping...

    1950s tour of the Loire.

And a few shots of a little Somme battlefield me and a couple of chums did at the end of the summer last year. We caught the ferry from Newhaven to Dieppe, then rode to Albert, toured the battlefield for a few days with a mate who caught the train down from Paris. On the way back we were feeling...

    1950s tour of the Loire.

Fantastic photo! I love shots like these. Here is a family one from my Great Uncle Walter, riding with the Erdington Cycling and Social Club just after the war. Club Cycle Ride by Mike, on Flickr https://www.flickr.com/photos/29051501@ ... 662548545/

    1949 Claude Butler

What a great project! Watching with interest, and some very useful info posted already on here. I'm taking notes too! Interesting hearing about the rust treatments. I am currently trying out some rusty parts in a cheap white vinegar solution. It seems to be working very well, but I'd like to...

c1956 BSA Tour of Britain - too far gone to restore?

Snapped the Cyclo gear change cable on it's first ride. It's was very rusty and I'm surprised it worked at all TBH. I have a another cable here, and just need to file down the nipple to fit the cylco shifter. There is a VCC ride on Sunday I think, and if I can get the gears working a little...

c1956 BSA Tour of Britain - too far gone to restore?

Thanks Bruce! Although I never really bonded with the bike after the initial disappointment of seeing it in the flesh the first time. I figured that I could always just use it as a parts donor if it didn't work out. I just wanted to get it rolling as cheaply as possible, it was always going to...

c1956 BSA Tour of Britain - too far gone to restore?

Re: c1952 BSA Tour of Britain - too far gone to restore? I've never stuck a tape measure on it. I've not even adjusted the saddle or seat post! Not standard practice I know ... I was more worried about if it would actually work! Making it fit didn't seem so important! It's feels...

c1956 BSA Tour of Britain - too far gone to restore?

Re: c1952 BSA Tour of Britain - too far gone to restore? Thanks Dennis. Bar tape feels fine. It's pretty hard and plasticy, as you'd imagine plastic bar tape to be  Obviously if you are used to modern cushioned tape it will be a step down, but I didn't have any issues with it.
