Re: Here are a couple of pics of the underside of the bottom bracket. The stamped frame/part code reads G.R. 23B.

Re: Keith - The dents under the bottom bracket lugs look like small round punch marks, there is also another frame/part number stamped in. Does this sound like what you have described? I can post a pic of this tomorrow.

I downloaded catalogues from the National Cycle Library site from 1951, 52, 54, and 56 as well as a much earlier catalogue from 1933 as I had some spare data to download - all really interesting to read. None of the bikes in the catalogues seem to fit as they all have pump clips in a different...

Re: Might New Hudson bikes have been made to different patterns, possibly in a different factory despite being owned by Raleigh/BSA? I'd be interested to know a bit about how the bikes were built at that time - were the frames individually hand made? What sort of factory line was there? It's...

Re: Keith, do think there is a chance this could be a later model than we've been thinking? Possibly up to the mid 1970s? Or is it likely to be a low end, late 1950s model with various mods/repairs over time?

Re: Thanks everyone for your knowledge and input. The fact it is a 'poverty spec' (that made me chuckle) bike would explain why I've never seen another one, or met anyone who knew what it was. I like that it has survived though and it is a lot of fun to ride, but I also know now that it won't...

Re: Here are some detail pics of the frame. There is also a pic of the old Wrights leather saddle that was on the bike when I got it. The seat pin is marked up with ø26 which I presume is mm.

Re: What little I have found so far leads me to believe it is late 1950s, I have no idea of what sort of level bike it might have been when it was released though. I'll add some pics when I'm not posting from my phone. Thank you for your interest.

Re: Thanks. I'll take some close ups, there are some nice details such as a braze on cable guide and an oil/grease port at the bottom bracket as well as the pump pegs.

Hi, a year or so ago I bought a bike from a bike rescue scheme in York. It is a steel framed, 5spd road bike with 27in wheels, branded up as a New Hudson and has the frame number X4032 stamped on the rear dropout. I've not been able to find out much about these, or figure out an accurate age. I...
