Re:
Thanks for the links. I did try one made by Sun Race which is the same as the examples you found. It's a 28mm width which doesn't fit the frame. I didn't really want to keep ordering multiple freewheels in the hope one would fit. I was hoping someone knew of a chain or 24mm freewheel that...
Re:
If that's the case then I need a replacement but I'm struggling to find a 24mm 5 speed freewheel that will fit without rearranging the setup of the rear hub and wheel. Any ideas for chain or freewheel would be great.
Re:
The chain rings are in good nick and the skipping occurs on the middle 3 sprockets under moderate loads when in either chainring so I'm fairly sure it's the chain/freewheel?
Re:
I'm having real trouble finding a replacement 5 speed freewheel to fit. Needs to be 24mm wide as the replacement I tried (Sun Race) was 28mm as most modern replacements seem to be.
If I could find a freewheel I'd be happy with that but the freewheel I have doesn't appear to be worn
I've had a bit of an issue with a new KMC Z7 7 Speed Chain skipping on my 1985 Raleigh Royal. I had posted in another thread but after putting the old chain back on the problem is fixed.
I was wondering what others on here had used for a 3/32" x1/2" chain replacement for this era of bikes that...
Re: Re:
This is exactly what I've now discovered. The new Sun Race fw is too wide (approx. 28mm) to replace the original Maillard fw which measures about 24mm.
I need to find a replacement without ordering and returning freewheels as most sites don't state the hub width or have an option to...
Re:
So the standard English thread should take any freewheel? Could I go for a 6 or 7 speed then?
Would any of these work?

I have just finished doing up a Raleigh Royal.
I took it out for a spin and it's skipping on the rear sprockets (in the middle 2.3.4 gears). As I have a new chain on an old freewheel (Maillard 5 speed 14-32T) this can be expected I suppose. I have thoroughly cleaned and lubed the old...
Re:
That looks like some good info. Many thanks. Also looks like the £90 I paid was good value for a clean and straight bike that needs a bit of cleaning and attention to the odd scuff/bearing change.
I'm trying to replace the seat post clamp on a Raleigh Royal 10 I bought this week as it has a quick release clamp which I don't like or want.
Does anyone know the correct look or part? I can't find it by searching google. The original catalogue doesn't specify and all the pics I have seen...
