taken a compromise way out. I've managed to get some replacement headset bits from in here, and have got a slightly later P2 fork off flea bay. Will leave the original fork as-is and have the new one modded to aheadset and then put it on the bike for day-to-day use keeping the pukka stuff...

Fair comment, but the last thing I need is sharp steering when carrying the shopping or towing my trailer! As it happens though the aheadset stems I can to use, from my box of bits, are either 110mm, 100mm or 80mm

slowing the steering won't be a problem, the bike is used as a ss cruiser style all round shop/pub/hack bike.

Top news. A fortunate ebay purchase. It will go to dave yates to be converted to an ahead steerer so I can then upgrade my '93 kilauea without messing with the original fork. 778 gms and no lawyer tabs either.
