WTD, reasonably lightweight 26" wheels- not too choosy ;)

This isn't for a proper retro project but for my commuter- a 90s Carrera that proves a mountain bike can be old without becoming retro or desirable ;) Not too choosy, just looking for good braking surfaces, reasonable quality hubs, and not too heavy- brand names definitely desirable so I know...

Wanted- 7 speed mechs, 26mm black seatpost, wide flat bars

Sidewinder, I'm probably looking for something a bit wider, 600mm mark or more, but cheers robdem, I should've said, is the front mech bottom pull?

Wanted- 7 speed mechs, 26mm black seatpost, wide flat bars

Just down to the last few bits for my semi-retro... So, looking for the above in good or new condition, bars and seatpost have to be black (it's the new black)... Cash waiting for the right parts. Front mech is 28.6 I believe. Cheers! Andrew

Wanted, 26mm black seatpost, or smaller

These seem to be harder to find than I thought :( Does anyone out there have a plain black post in either 26mm, or a smaller size that has an easy shim for it ie 25mm? I can find 25.4mm ones but that doesn't seem to be any use (I might use a beer can shim but it's not really what I had in mind!)...

Wanted, 26mm seatpost in black, good condition

Oh damn it all :( I did that last time too, what a clown. Apologies to whatever admin ends up moving it. Mmm, good idea that actually, should be easier to find a 25mm. Tell you what, can I get back to you on that if I find a suitable smaller post? I'd sooner avoid shims but it's probably...

Wanted, 26mm seatpost in black, good condition

Just what it says up there :) Looking for a black 26mm post for my old carrera semi-retro project, it's got to be in nice condition, no major scrapes or dulling etc Cheers Andrew

    Replacement 7-speed drivetrain?

Hmm, at a guess mine did 10000 miles. Between 8 and 10 probably. But not especially high stress for most of that.

    Replacement 7-speed drivetrain?

I have no idea how long it's been dead, to be fair, my brother's a bike-killer and probably wouldn't notice  So it could have been grinding scrap for most of the last decade.

    Replacement 7-speed drivetrain?

I'm building a new bike at the same time so don't worry, my pockets are already fully holed. So, either I can't spend any more, or spending more make it any worse, not sure which as yet. That nice Mr Brown told me to spend my way out of the recession Thanks for the link, I'd been over...

    Replacement 7-speed drivetrain?

Thanks for that- I've seen a lot of cranksets advertised as 7/8 or 9 speed, but of course that doesn't mean they don't work with other sizes. And at worst the chain here will be wider, so should still run true even if this isn't right, it's not like the pitch has changed. Totally agree with...

    Replacement 7-speed drivetrain?

Ah, no, no worries there, the BB barely turns now, it is categorically dead. It had a good innings though! BB-LP30, we salute you! OK, so can I just check something, is there a meaningful difference between a 7-speed and modern 9-speed crank? IIRC the chain is narrower for 9-speed but the...

    Replacement 7-speed drivetrain?

Hmm, yeah, I suspect that I can't run the gearing as high as I'd like without running into othe rissues. So it's kind of a balancing act but I know 48T is slightly lower than my ideal. At the end of the day getting a good reliable crank at a decent price is the goal, slightly higher gearing is...

    Replacement 7-speed drivetrain?

Yeah, it was just good spec for a kid's bike when everyone else had first-gen SIS ;) Any rapidfire shifters were good for a lot of playground points  Still, they've lasted essentially forever despite a lot of neglect, so I'm fairly impressed still. If I'd got that Raleigh Activator...
