Looking for suggestions on budget externally routed 30.9 dropper posts, on an old Marin hardtail. Cheapest seems to be be RSP at go outdoors without taking a punt on something on eBay, at 99.99 with a 125mm drop, anybody had any experience with these? Anybody have anything suitable for sale? Cheers

Re: Nice one cheers. Good deal on wiggle at the moment on xt BBs £15, cheaper than the deore bbs so should be good for that side of things

Re: Went for a long ride today and the powerspline bb is driving me mad ticking away, I removed and refitted, torqued to spec, still no improvement so going to be my next upgrade. Going to order a HT2 bb from wiggle or similar. Is anybody selling a reasonably priced ht2 compatible crank...

Re: Sounds good cheers, I’ve measured my fork travel at 120mm. Let me have a look at my bike budget, I’m on Furlough at the moment, but can hopefully top up the bike pot with a few eBay sales I have on the go

Re: Cheers, seen deore BBs for about £20 so worth a punt, then I’ll try find used crank to match. Having never fitted a External BB myself, looking at the cranks, it looks like the bolts at end of shaft set the preload then you tighten the pinch bolts like a headset/ stem ? Would this be correct ?

Re: Nice one cheers, I see it does get a little confusing. Basically I think I’m going to look for a hollow tech 2 BB and a single chain ring crank and go from there. Any reasonable BBS You would suggest ? Think I’ve read deore ht2 is pretty good and reasonably priced

Re: Ah, the refacing makes sense with the external cups. I just like the idea of a thru style crank over the traditional BBs, although I know of people using square taper etc for years and no issues. Cheers, I’ll look into my options
