SOLD : Mercian KOM f&f, canti, ‘91, beautiful but an issue*

Re: Nothing constructive to say except this is stunning, and a bargain. Paint is incredible. FWIW, seatpost cluster clamp is between £20-40 to repair, not including cost of respray, but if you were to do that. Then Mario Vaz would be the man.

Help needed, mavic zap bb chamfer

Re: Solved! I found a bike shop that can do it for £20, right round the corner from my dads place. They have the original tool, but admitted to not using it often.

Help needed, mavic zap bb chamfer

Hi all, I have an old frame with bad bb threads and go my hands on a mavic zap bb that tightens onto the bb shell by itself. However, after reading up on how to install it, I realise I need to cut a chamfer into each side of my bb shell for it to stay put properly. The only issue is that I have...

    26.4 fluted seatpost

As above, for my plain gauge 531 frame. Early 80s preferred.

    What's this holdsworth?

Hmm, a conundrum then. The 26.4 I have in is slipping. I've shimmed it with beer can slithers so will see if that works. I have ordered a gauge to measure it properly so will eventually have a better idea. Yeah changing the cranks increased clearance to about 5mm, i suspect that the other...

    What's this holdsworth?

Went for a trundle up the canal then some gravel in the Lee valley. Lovely

    What's this holdsworth?

Changed crankset to something more classic looking. Chainring from sales forum here. Currently pushing 75gi which is a nice slow rolling trundle. Emerging issue however is that my seatpost slips. I'm convinced it's the wrong size. Anyone know what size it's likely to take? 27.2 would be lovely...

    What's this holdsworth?

Re: Yes, this is clearly the case. But thanks for putting it so succinctly. I'm having a lot of fun on this bike, and will continue to tinker and learn with it. Thanks by the way for all of your insight and knowledge. It's really helped me create an notion of pedigree for this beautiful frame...

    What's this holdsworth?

Hmm. There is always spacers, that's true. For what it's worth, I'm used to modern track bikes with 103/106 mm bb axel lengths, and I always aim for a 42mm chainline. I'm running a 106 in this bike with my go-to affordable crankset, a converted shimano 600 road with inner tabs ground off...

    What's this holdsworth?

Ok, so after mulling over how close the spider is to the chainstay, as well as the rear spacing being over 120 mm, did older track hubs have a wider chainline? I can't imagine I'd be able to fit a much larger chainring and still keep a 42mm chainline. Surely I should be able to run a proper...
