    CLB Racer

Re: I don't think that you should have a problem with this. I have used Shimano 105 aero levers with the cantilever brakes on my Raleigh Randonneur and these are essentially centre pulls in their operation. I have found that they work very well.

Help on Whitfield Bicycle made in Furneax Pelham

Re: John Weatheritt's obit from N&V below. It notes that he only built 100 frames so it's a pretty rare bike that you have there. With tremendous personal sadness I am reporting the passing of John Weatheritt on 13th February 2014. John built 100 frames with great care between 1980 and 1989 at...

Help on Whitfield Bicycle made in Furneax Pelham

Re: Hi Ian, that's a nice looking machine. I have seen a few references to John Weatheritt and Whitfield cycles in the Veteran Cycle Club magazine over the past few years (including an obituary in 2014) but I suspect that they contain little information that you do not already have. However, I...

    Special tyres required?

Re: I have a couple of bikes with Weinmann unhooked rims and have experienced similar problems when inflated to higher pressures. However, in my experience these seem to work fine running at about 60psi.

    Youngs of Lewisham Project

Re: Better known as paintboxmobile.com , who specialise in vehicle refinishing. If you take a look at the gallery on their website there are some pics of my Pat Hanlon frame that the painted a couple of years ago; a top quality job.

    1989 Raleigh Royal Bottom Bracket

Re: I still have the BB that I took out (it isn't in bad condition really) and according to the sticker this one is a UN54, it is also marked 68 - presumably the BB width in mm; BC1.37 x 24 which refers to the thread. Below that it has D-NL which I think refers to the overall length of the...

    1989 Raleigh Royal Bottom Bracket

Re: I am surprised that it doesn't look as if a cartridge BB will fit. I have a Royal of similar vintage, when it came to me the original BB had been replaced by a cartridge. I completely overhauled the machine a couple of years ago and I replaced the BB (which was starting to feel a bit...

    I seem to have bought.....

Re: Well if you are in Bucks you could try the Reading Lightweight Ride tomorrow from Theale village hall. There is usually a good turnout of quality machines, and it's a great day out.

Early Hetchins and 27 inch wheels

Re: I would suggest that you reconsider 700c wheels if only that it will allow a much better choice of tyres. Decent 27" tyres narrower than 11/4" are quite difficult to obtain and there are few choices for 11/4". I would agree with roadking and go for a 7 or 8 speed, I doubt that an 11 speed...

You and your bikes' combined age?

Re: My single speed Hobbs and I: 128. I initially used a comma there but that made it look like an unassailable 1128. As we are both pretty young I am sure this can be easily beaten.
