To be far I was asking for it with the new stuff on the old Kona - so fair point - but as its the first attempt I thought I'd try and minimise the damage (cost).

Ive taken the cranks off and removed the old BB - Do I need to measure the BB length? apologies for sounding like an idiot! - there is no length marked on the axle.
thats really helpful - its made me realise how little I know. have had a look around at the site and as I have a FC-M440 crank. From what i can see a BB-UN26 BB looks to do the job. ill try that unless anyone can see that I am about to make a (nother) mistake....
