Hello, I am after a steel pub/town/shopping bike - either a sensible road bike (i.e. with 32c+ tyres and mudguards) or a large gents town bike (no SA hubs or rod brakes though please!). It will in all likelihood perennially live in the garage, and it's going to get knocked around in the stands...

Re: I am entirely unconvinced by any claims of breathability and waterproofness. That's after spending 250 quid on a top-end hiking/climbing jacket too. After the goretex started flaking off I sold it and bought a 20 quid Mac-in-a-Sac which was, a couple of features aside, literally just as good.

Had a productive day today - handy having a friend who owns a bike shop. Cleaned and polished the frame up and fitted everything bar the seatpost and tyres, all of which are on their way. I also picked up a WTB saddle for nothing, which was nice. The cabling is for cantis rather than Vs, so...

Re: Specialized Hardrock Ultra Antipodean Adventurer- what year? So the frame's 'Offroad CRMO SFS Tubing'; the fork says 'DD (I presume this stands for 'Direct Drive' which is also stickered on the frame) Double-Butted CRMO'. Also it's an Ultra! What does that mean then?
