Those brakes seem like a terrible design. I'm really not sure what problem they were trying to solve. I would ditch them and just get a set of basic shimano or avid from ebay

Yes. Also, the '03 - '05 Monster T's had so much clearance you could get a 29" wheel in them even though they were designed for 26"

I remember the elastomer stack from my Quadra 21's firing into my chest under compression when the plastic threads on the topcap just gave up. Hopefully that won't happen to you!
