It doesn't look totally corroded. It looks like it's just damage from the entrance to a few mil down. Thanks for the suggestion though. Yeah when I heard those words, I almost shed a tear :( lol

Yeah I was thinking that myself but was saving it as 'last resort' measure. I haven't tried putting a brake cable through it because I wanted to sort the issue before I let a new cable get all chewed up. As a reference point, this is what it should look like...
