Show us (your) 80's mountain bikes !

stumpjumper1990, I'm surprised to see a Peugeot amongst your other beauties ! I also own one, Crazy Horse model, of course not because I get excited with it but because they were the first available MTBs here in France from 1984 on. It's in a sorry state but it'll get restaured someday ...

Show us (your) 80's mountain bikes !

Thanks to the ones who unearthed this thread, I simply forgot aboutit it, shame on me, This gives me the opportunity to post my own bike as I finally found one dating from 1985. It's a french Bertin, mostly known for their roadbikes. If I'm not mistaken it was sort of equivalent to...

mint / completely original 93 Rockhopper (more pics!)

I hope your girlfriend is tall enough because those Rockhoppers are quite long. Mine seems to be the same size as yours and it's almost 59cm long. The good thing about RHs of that generation is the very reasonable weight at around 12kg Cheers Karl

1975 Peugeot PR10 - project update. Thavenet Theme

Toomski 1- the answer is in my signature but just for your pleasure here's pics of some of my favs  : 1979 Peugeot PKN10 (in fact I own 2 identical ones, just in case !) that replaced the PR that year 1953 Peugeot PHL 50 1978 Helyett-Gitane (full Reynolds 531) 1979...

1975 Peugeot PR10 - project update. Thavenet Theme

Still, the frame remains a PR with Reynolds 3 main tubes only when the sticker you used claims a full 531 frame like the PX/PY. I'm sorry and I don't mean to offend you but that simply is cheating even if you don't intend to. Just think of the guy who buys that frame from you and sell it...

1975 Peugeot PR10 - project update. Thavenet Theme

Nice restoration ! But how come you've put a full 531 frame sticker when it's a PR which only has the front triangle made out of Reynolds steel, according to the catalogs ? Cheers Karl

25 quids for a mint Stumpy  ? For that price even a Hardrock that would be a bargain in such a good nick. Well, all the better for the ones who know.

    Mount Tam clunker

Wow, you sure you wanna go offroad with a stem that "stiff"

    Mount Tam clunker

Sorry for the stupid question but how did you manage to fit those bars on that stem ? You didn't spread it open, did you ????

    muddy fox explorer circa 1986/7

Yeah leave the Schwalbes, they're ok on a full rigid bike. You're right with changing those bars at some point, upsweep is absolutely anti-ergonomic and silly. I bought once some Tioga R60 without being aware they had that upsweep. Never could adapt to them so they're still hanging somewhere in...

Nice bike Beagle ! My turn now with the last generation of steel Rockhoppers (Ritchey Nitanium tubes) in 1997 or 1998

I wouldn't trust that aluminium stem and the height you've set it up to (enormous leverage). I would be to frighten to get impalled on it in case it snaps under a strong pull/push ! Besides I guess it's as stiff as marshmallow. Nice bike nevertheless
