Resolved this with a purchase of 7mm external circlips off eBay. I had to buy 10 so have a few left. If anyone wants a couple drop me a pm and for the cost of a stamp I will happily send them on, though it'll have to be sometime next week as at a family wedding this weekend.

But not sure what year it is. Had it from new since Jan 2000 so must be the 1999 model. Went for the hope brakes upgrade (C2 with sport levers). Since then upgraded wheels to Hope XC hubs mated to some Magic disc specific rims not sure which version though. The fork was knackered and the brakes...

Very true - there is nothing better than a new bike but with two small children it's not going to happen for a while... And yes it is a Marin Wolf Ridge with the Hope C2 brakes and sport levers which I am presently taking apart, cleaning, replacing all the seals etc and putting back together...
