Yep, double checking with two calculators is a good idea too. If i were to guesstimate the length i would say rear non drive is 264, drive is 262. Front is 256/8.
Most stems out there are made with more than one piece of tubing, but some are forged/machined or extruded down from stock, such as sakae. Most are for road use…but there are positive rise ones around that iv'e seen on Miyata & other early japanese mtb's.
As for Paul's stem…i'd run it halfway or...
Frank - i run this logic when working with stems that are over 15 years old... If you intend to ride them.
*If it's mild steel and long or short in length - drop it.
*If it's alloyed steels that are one piece - safe to raise within 2" of the wedge.
*If it's alloyed steels that are multi piece...
