Have you got a 1993 standard mag 21 with 1 1/8 aheadset steerer? The ones with the black bridge.

+1 for the use seat post. Very light but a raft of issues. Had to trim down a 4mm Allen key to install it, the shim stuck in my frame and the clamps bent. And original dia compe aheadset, impossible to tighten.

I removed the cantilever studs from a 2004 trek 8500 and it was hard work. Not something I’d do again, a good quality spanner is necessary and even then it is risky. That’s an older bonded frame so it may be that they are bonded in too, I’d clean them up as I’m guessing you are sticking with...
