    Raleigh Routier Value ?

Hi, Would my bike be worth more as it was original as a ten speed or as it is as a single speed. I have bought a new chain and will be putting it back to ten speed. I will be cleaning the mechs on it and new cables if it needs it. It has had new bearings all round and the paint is in very good...

    Raleigh Courier to SS

Re: Thanks for the tips. I think I will just restore it back to what it was originally. I want different handlebars on it though as the ones on it are uncomfortable. I have cleaned and regreased all the bearings and put the forks, headset and BB back on. The chain is so dirty and oily, I think...

    Raleigh Courier to SS

Re: Thanks. I might just end up putting the bike back to as it was. I am getting a pair of 26" alloy wheels single speed from a 1980's bike but I am thinking of putting 700c wheels on as I know they will fit b ut with thin tyres as ones I have on another bike have 700 x 45 tyres. Too fat for...

    Raleigh Courier to SS

I hope this is the right section to put this in. My wife bought me this bike. I dont know what, but something told me to get it and it just appealed to me. It is now in bits in my shed as I have completely stripped it down ready to be made into a single speed bike. I am unsure wether I will...

    Raleigh Pursuit finally finished

Hi, No. In the end, I left the original ones on. I did find someone on ebau who does repro stickers and he wanted pictures of the stickers and the measurements of height of letters and the length of total sticker. He wanted a picture as flat as possible, but taking a pic on a tube was a bit hard...

    Carlton age needed please

Not my shed. lol. My mate went around to his mates house to buy something from him and while he was there, they went in the shed to get the item and my mate saw the bike under a tarpaulin. He phoned me and told me about it saying " it was only used a few times and then put in the shed and been...

    Carlton age needed please

Thanks. It is a shame, but I will get one to restore one day when I have the time and space to do it. At the moment, I am after a pond yacht to restore and use as an ornament on my windowsill.

    Carlton age needed please

Hi. The down tube decal says 'Super Race' and around the edge says 'Made in Worksop England'. The same sort of decals are on the front forks, but instead of super race, they have Carlton. I will not be restoring this one. I dont have the space, time or money to do it at the moment. I also have...

    Carlton age needed please

Thanks Shaun. It is a strange mech to me. It looks a mess as it is dirty, but it works when the cable is pulled. Ian

    Carlton age needed please

Re: Thanks Keith. I was unsure about the handlebars but as I could not see a makers mark on them and only on the stem, I just assumed with the shape of the handlebars, trhey are not normal Carlton ot raleigh ones, but old, perhaps the same vintage as the bike. I still have not found a date...

    Carlton age needed please

I have just bought a Carlton racer. I have been told it is from 1960, but when I looked up the serial number, I came up with age between 1951 and 1959. It does not hace a model name, but reynolds 531 frame 23". 27" wheels. Simplex front and rear derailleurs (toggle chain). Cinelli handlebars...

Indentification of an old Raleigh, now found out!

The 'N' is Nottingham. The 'S' is December. The next digit '0' would be 1980. The rest of the numbers are the frame serial number. As the gear change levers are on with a clamp and not braize-ons, this would indicate it is no later than 83 onwoards as the braze-ons were used from the mid(ish)...

    Chain slip in first gear

Snap. The same as I bought but different item number. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/190965395710? ... 1439.l2649 I have changed the freewheel for the second photo and also changed the 'split link' in the chain. When I go out on it again, I will see the difference if there is any made. There seems...
