    BBC4 Tuesday 27th July...

Rob Penn Thought he ended up with a bit of a hotch potch of a bike though. (But don't we all!) And when someone's as enthusiastic as he was about some great kit (Brooks Team Professional hooray!) wearing a retrobike T shirt I'm not going to carp. I think the American wheels and headset just...

Jane Eastoe - Britain by bike. New book.

It's advertised as a sort of tribute to Harold Briercliffe who wrote a series of cycle touring guides in the late 1940's, early 1950's that would appeal to people on this site. Avoid this book though. It's dreadful. She hasn't ridden a bike in her life. See my review on Amazon for more info...

Ken Bird - What to Do??

I'm no authority, but I don't remember seeing a Ken Bird in anything but white or blue during the 70's or 80's and racing in Kent then I saw a lot of them. I'd be interested to hear other people's views. Nice to see this one anyway, whatever colour it is now. Modolo had a pretty good reputation...

English thread pedal tap - Leeds?

Two suggestions: www.tracytools.com - they stock every tap and die known to western civilisation. And prob cheaper and quicker than trying to buy one through the bike trade. Then you'll have it for next time too! Another tip for cleaning an iffy thread if you've got a spare scrap left hand...

    1990 Ken Bird

Should have said those photos are as it is now. Not really much different. Only the best behaved road bikes are allowed on the settee. Not posting any more of the moustache though....

Road frame sizing?? Also what do these cost ish nowadays?

From your measurements I'd suggest you start off looking at road bikes with top tubes measuring about 21 - 22inches. (Measure from centre of seat tube to centre of head tube.) Think carefully before going below say 20" or above 22" for this measurement. Set the saddle height (measured from...

Otherself ; I've still got it - it's a San Marco Lazer. Honey coloured Brooks Swallow, now and red treaded Michelin tyres. Yes, it's a pretty bike and I'll try to get some current pictures of it posted next week. Green Rabbit - I did the West Kent CTC 100 in 8 in 1980 as part of my build up...

    Early Saracen Lovers Anonymous......

Thanks both re tyre clearance. I thought it could be a prob, so I'll proceed with caution. Actually I always preferred narrower tyres (roadie background showing) but for old times sake fancied Smoke/Dart. For the moment there are more pressing issues and I'll just have to ration my use of the...
