Did a bit more on it this evening:
Stripped the front end out, cleaned and regreased the headrace bearings. Also used a bit of wire wool and polish on the chrome cups and fixings as they were a bit rusty.
Gave the handlebars a bit of a polish - they're a bit rusty as well, but no come up too...
This evening i went to strip and regrease the rear wheel bearings, the hubs and bearings were full of a mix water and old manky grease - they were in a lot worse state than the front hub.

Some more progress today - spent a couple of hours or so this afternoon on it.
I gave the front wheel a good clean, stripped the wheel spindle from the hub and got the old grease out - had the bearings out and cleaned them up, and re-assembled with fresh grease - rolls a lot better now as it...
OK mate, thanks for the advice. Next job will be the cleanup. i also lubed the front brake cable earlier and adjusted the brake so it's central and works correctly.

Very true - i was debating over road or knobbly type tyres for ages, but finally decided on the knobblies, may not be so good on the road but we have a few cycle paths round my way which are mud / gravel so went for a compromise.
