It is definitely an M. The Bike seems quite lightweight and the tubing is butted.

I will look that up again, but I think it is as you wrote above, M and eight digits. By googling I found no brand with that location of the s/n.

Some more Details: The colour seems somewhat blueish, the tires are Ritchey Megabite, the stem and Seatpost are no-name Taiwan products...
