I bought it brand new and assembled it out of the box myself. I was working at a bike shop when I was 16 and was able to order one as a sponsored shop rider I guess. I'm not entirely sure exactly how it went down as it was quite a while ago. You are correct as in you could not buy it at a bike...
I found the catalogue for 1996 (http://www.retrobike.co.uk/gallery2/d/1 ... book96.pdf), and although the frame does not say S-Works anywhere on it, I think it must be the S-Work M2 Team. That's the only bike that year that had the Team name on it. Now to figure out the special edition paint job...
I can't find a "Welded by Chris DeKerf" decal on the bike at all, so perhaps it was a different bike that Mike E. looked at. I'm curious about the '93 Blizzard that I saw for sale now. Would be nice to get the serial from it and see if it's one of the 'rumoured' Dekerfs.
I'm actually not too sure about the details of this special edition frame. If anyone else knows, I would love to get some more information as well. As far as I know the frame was only available to employees of the bike shops that sold Specialized. It looks like an S-Works, but the decal does say...
Thanks for all the comments everyone! This is such a great community.
Blizz: Yes, the frame is a bit of the small size for me too, but I can still ride it quite comfortably. Part of the reason for getting it was the Syncros fork. As nice as it is to have it all original, I thought it would be...
I fell in love with Rocky, Syncros and Raceface growing up biking in BC, Canada in the early 90s. I could never afford a bike until 1996, but always really wanted a Blizzard as the older kids had them.
I recently purchased this 1992 Rocky Mountain Blizzard and have begun to fix it up a bit. The...
I bought a 27.0 Syncros post off Frank. Nicely packaged and the post was in even nicer than what I was expecting. Would buy again from Frank for sure. Thanks!
Re:
Yes. I contacted him and he sent me the attached picture. It looks like a '92. I asked if he'd just sell the frame as the parts don't really fit the period, but he said he'd only sell the bike complete.
Ha. That would have been a bit ironic. The wheels look to be in decent shape from all the photos I've seen.
I'll probably take the bike off road a bit, but not too much. I have a few newer bikes to choose from when I want to throw the bike around (2014 Scott Scale 700 RC, 2013 Scott Genius 710...
Thanks for the responses. I'm glad that everyone is in support of leaving the frame with the original paint job. I do remember quite a few of those scrapes and scratches :)
The original Spins that were on it were stolen when my brother had the bike in France, but I've been able to find another...
Here are a few photos of the frame how it is now. I can't decide whether or not to have the frame repainted. The decals are one of the things that make this bike unique and I feel bad to strip them off. It is also going to be really expensive to get new ones custom created. I'm considering doing...
