Should I buy yet another vintage Kona?!

Haha, I caved and bought it. Just gave it a good degreasing scrub down and hung it up in the catacombs with the others. They’re just hibernating until I’ve got more time to work on bikes.

Whoops! I took another look at it and the seller came down on the price and it had Bontrager Ti bars and well…I couldn’t help myself. 🤷‍♂️

I knew this group would appreciate the trials and tribulations of having the Kona collecting bug! 😆

Nice looking bike! I thought your serial was 255 at first and got excited! Mines 253. I bought mine as a frame 10+ years ago and built it up using parts from a donor Stumpjumper. Only regret is that I didn’t have Mr. Teesdale weld me up a proper fork while he was still alive, ‘cause I thought it...

Should I buy yet another vintage Kona?!

Yeah...somehow I've built up a small museum, though unintentionally. Not sure anyone would pay for admission though... Hey, at least it's a cheaper hobby than collecting classic cars!

Haha you know how it is late night looking for these! Half the fun is tracking them down.

I think I’ve shared them before, but here ya go! There are more bikes elsewhere… I did just sell the yellow Montare so that frees up a hook! 😂

Should I buy yet another vintage Kona?!

So I’ve got a nice little Kona collection going with just about one complete bike of each of the hardtail models from the 90s, along with a few frames: ‘93 Fire Mountain, ‘95 cinder cone, ‘99 Lava Dome, ‘94 Kilauea frame, ‘89 Explosif, ‘93 Hot, ‘96 Hei Hei, ‘99 King Kahuna, ‘97 Ku frame, ‘98...

    Kona A'ha Stars & Bars 1997

How's the fit on that 20" frame? I'm right at 6' and usually ride a 19" 90s Kona sized frame. I have a 20" Kaboom and that one does seem a little big. I get why Kona only made the A'ha in 18" and 20", but it would've been great to have a 19" as well. Can't figure out if it's better to size the...

White Brothers AT3 fork play & rebuild.

I’ll have to take them apart and see if anything’s missing/dissolved. Per the owners manual “Zero preload means that at full extension of the fork, the fork caps just touch the top of the springs.” Seems like maybe the clunk is the fork upper sliding down to the point where the caps contact the...

White Brothers AT3 fork play & rebuild.

Haha I wish! I should’ve mentioned I rode it for a few years after the 2007 rebuild and then it’s gone from friend to friend since then. I just bought it back from one that was upgrading to something more modern.

White Brothers AT3 fork play & rebuild.

When I bought this in 2002 just about the entire bike was XTR. Shifters/brakes/derailleurs/cranks/bb/hubs/qrs! The guy at a local shop said it was "Gucci-d out". :cool:The friend I sold it to "had to" put the deore cranks on as the XTR chainrings were worn and their shop didn't want to try to...

Yes, I'll add that detail in. It compresses easily to the clunk, and it then works normally as you'd expect from the springs inside. Just real easy to get to the clunk, so would likely be topping out/clunking a bit on a rough section of trail.
