Dropper post for a 1991 Stumpjumper - reasonably feasible?

But my bike says it can jump stumps?

Dropper post for a 1991 Stumpjumper - reasonably feasible?

I have a new Trek Roscoe 7 MTB, which is a great bike. I have become especially appreciative of the dropper post. Which makes me wonder... is a dropper post reasonably feasible for my 1991 Stumpjumper, without getting crazy expensive? My reasoning: a dropper post would make mounting and...

Advise on opening this Shimano Thumb Shifter to replace cable

Right! Watching that YouTube video, I can see that some engineer really earned his pay designing all the parts that make up the shifter. It seems better quality than the seemingly cheap/plastic modern day Deore shifter with its two under bar levers on my Trek Roscoe 7.

Advise on opening this Shimano Thumb Shifter to replace cable

Thank you all so much. Now I'm really glad I asked instead of just cracking the housing open! I'm amazed at how smoothly and flawlessly the SIS shifter and Deore derailleur functions... after all these years!

Advise on opening this Shimano Thumb Shifter to replace cable

This is the Shimano SL-MT32 shifter on my 1991 Stumpjumper. Can anyone advise on accessing the cable inside, for replacement? There is a large screw on the bottom of the shifter housing, which I'm guessing is the only way to open the shifter, but wanted to check with those who have more...

Tire options for 1991 Specialized BX23 rims - can I go fatter than 1.95"?

My '91 Stumpjumper came with BX23 rims and 1.95" Specialized Crossroads tires. Without removing a tire from the rim, the outside rim width measures 23.6mm (where the brake shoes contact). I am guessing that the internal width of the rims is about 23mm? I would like to go with a wider tire than...

    '91 Stumpjumper Time Warp Classic....

I have been advised to replace my 34 year old tires. o_O Can't imagine why. ;) Does anyone know the internal rim width of the Specialized 26" BX-23 wheels? Without removing a tire from the rim, the rim width measures 23.6mm external (where the brake shoes contact). I'm wondering if I could go...

    '91 Stumpjumper Time Warp Classic....

@abr303... are there currently produced drivetrain replacement parts (cassettes, chainrings, etc.) that easily fit the old Stumpjumper, or is one relegated to trying to find old parts? Fortunately, I don't need to replace any, since my bike has seen decades of nothing but quiet rest. I'm just...

    '91 Stumpjumper Time Warp Classic....

abr303... my 1991 twin to your SJ is back on the trails again, today... after about 29 YEARS of waiting patiently for me! This trail is across the road from my house in the Sonoran Desert, in a Preserve that is loaded with trails.

    '91 Stumpjumper Time Warp Classic....

Forgot to ask... also, what is the wheel size specification (width)? Can a tire narrower than the stock 1.95" tire (more of a gravel tire width, perhaps 1.5"?) be run on these rims? I'm just thinking about possibly using this for sort of a hybrid-style riding? Mix of paved, gravel, and easy...

@abr303 .... Can you tell me what the cassette sizes are on the '91 Stumpjumper? Low gear and high gear?

Thank you. Any particular aspect that might make the most sense to pay for service? The deraileurs and brakes seem to be working fine to me. Clean and lube bottom bracket and headset, perhaps?
