    Bike Control Shockster

A bit of a long shot, but does anyone know of a Shockster for sale in the UK?

Question regarding a Moots I'm about to buy

Congratulations! I imagine it will be a great bike. Please let us know how you get on with it.

How to polish a titanium frame (here GT Xizang 97)

That looks really top-notch! I’ve got a titanium recumbent frame which looked less than pristine even when new. All the welds were discoloured – it looked like a used exhaust pipe! I was advised to use a metal polish called ‘Flitz’ – a lot of owners of Ti recumbent frames use that. It...

Question regarding a Moots I'm about to buy

A UK dealer is listing a new YBB frame for £3000. Their website says the Ti YBB has been available since 1991, but I don't know what changes have been made in that time. You could try emailing Moots if you have questions. I don't really know if it's a good buy or not, but with my little...

    7-speed thumb shifters

I think I may have to revert to a pair of thumb shifters; 7 speed rear, triple front. It's for Shimano Alivio derailleurs circa 1995.

    Insufficient handlebar space

Thanks! It's typical that I'm putting these handlebars on a bike with gears!

    Insufficient handlebar space

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'd prefer to try and use the handlebars I have, if possible. I did consider the Mary and Fleegle bars when I bought them. I hadn't realised everything would take up so much room! I currently have flat bars with integrated SLX shifters and levers so I should...

    Insufficient handlebar space

I’ve gathered together some bits to let me change my handlebars to something a little comfier. I bought North Road style handlebars, so the ends are angled at 45 degrees for a comfier wrist position. However, having fitted SLX 7 speed shifters, Avid V-brake levers and some On-One lock-on grips...

    Retrobike geometry

The tyres are Specialized Turbo ATB. They're quite narrow - I think they're 559x23 (26"x1.0"). They're also flat in that picture! It's quite difficult to get equivalent tyres nowadays. I know Schwalbe listed a Durano in that size a couple of years ago, but I don't think it ever materialised...

    Retrobike geometry

Thanks. It's quite similar to your bike. Here's a picture of it after I pulled it out of the shed. I've since fitted MTB tyres and removed the Minoura Spacegrip etc. I'm about 6ft tall, and it's a 19" frame. If I were riding on the road I could do with the saddle being a smidge higher than...

Shimano XTR M900 Shifter Pod Mounts

Sorry - how do these work? I've got combined SLX brake levers and broken rapidfire shifters. I've just bought standalone 7-speed SLX shifters. Would these allow me to retain the original brake levers - would I need to somehow cut off the original shifters from the brake levers?

    Retrobike geometry

Thanks. I'm in the middle of changing the handlebars, and have just bought some used V-brakes, levers, and shifters from the forum. Hopefully that should take care of things once I get them fitted. I'll maybe take a photo of the bike after that.

    Retrobike geometry

Thanks for all the comments, and the info on the changing geometry and riding styles. I hadn't realised the rides/routes had changed. I wasn't offended when he commented on my bike - at the time I thought it was a good excuse to buy a new bike! However, older bikes have always appealed to me...

    Retrobike geometry

I’m in the process of getting my old Saracen rigid mountain bike into a rideable state. There’s nothing really wrong with it, but I’ve not ridden off-road for years, so, being a bit nervous and lacking in skills, I recently had a short session with a mountain bike coach. He was quick to point...

    Fillet brazed frames

Thanks for all the great info and pictures. I'm not really in the market for a new frame yet, but I'll keep my eyes open!
