    Zolatone Marin freaks, what’s this??

Yes looks like you’re right, the 91 catalogue backs that up, lists the BV with Afterburners. So it’s a 90? Obv a look at the frame number would help but I’m not able to access the bike right now. Did an Eldridge have rapidfire DX in 90?

    Zolatone Marin freaks, what’s this??

Thanks I thought the afterburners were Eldridge-up for 91 but could be wrong

    Zolatone Marin freaks, what’s this??

Can any Marin aficionados cast any light on this one? It’s (I’m assuming) a 91 BV but apart from the Exage LX biopace crank it seems to be kitted out entirely in 91 Eldridge spec (Deore LX hubs, rear mech, black Wolber rims, DX rapidfire and LX cantis as per ‘90 Eldridge. It came from a US...

    1999 Marin Hardtail Catalogue

Thanks for posting these pics, I love to pore over the brochures. If there’s an easy way to scan them in to the archive, I’ll happily post a couple of mine which don’t seem to be in there, at least not in English.. While we’re on the subject, has anybody got any pre-90 catalogues they fancy...

When did it lose it for you.....

Lost it for me when suspension took over and Marins moved away from round tubing to Columbus shaped tubes. Everything else on the bike was moving away from lightness and slim design to bloated and heavy. Last worthwhile design revolution for me was V brakes. Very few post 97 bikes I like the...

    Help from Marin gurus

Teams are lovely bikes, I picked up my dream ‘91, and a ‘94 myself a few months back and they are as nice a steel frame as you’ll find, nicer than the later ones I’m told. I paint for a living but would never respray a Marin, (unless all the paint was missing..) There’s something about the...

‘89 Marin Bear Valley spec list/ photos?

Calling early Marin fans.. can anybody give an accurate original component spec for an 89 BV? I picked one up locally recently and I’m assuming a mix of Mountain LX, DX and Mavic/XT is a fair way from standard.. Also any catalogue pics or similar would be great to see. Thanks in advance

Is this a 1989 Marin Muirwoods?

The conclusion that the catalogue pages above are later than ‘89 is backed up by the ‘90 catalogue, which lists the Eldridge as a newcomer to the range, in the UK at any rate..

    1988 Marin Bear Valley

What a classy looking bike. There’s something about a Bear Valley, whatever the year, but the pre Zola stuff really does look smart. I have an 89 which deserves the same treatment, and a 92 SE in the wings. Will be time well spent when I get the chance 👍

    Marin Pine Mountain puzzle

Re bikepedia, I’ve found it much like Wikipedia, or a weather forecast.. right too often to ignore, but wrong too often to rely on. In my experience, Marins were generally well represented in their respective market brochures. My own 97 Pine reflected the brochure spec exactly, while there are a...

Help with Marin frame numbers please!

Yeah it’s a weird one.. I guess the Team and Issue frames were prob built elsewhere to the rest of the range, and have a different coding system, but that doesn’t explain the repeated serial numbers. In fact, the plot seems to thicken… I have a 94 Team frame here with what looks like the same...
